Why would you refuse the shipment? You ordered it, so obviously you needed it or wanted it. You knew there was new units in the pipeline, so why order anyway? People have been waiting out the last 3-4 Tuesdays for a refresh and nothing has come. As I said before, just dont open it until tomorrow to see what if anything new comes, then you have options. But at this point I guess thats too late.

Guess I just dont understand the mentality.

I just had to reply to this statement...

I went back and forth about replying to this statement and decided I had to. I'm not trying to start an argument here but come on. How could he "know" new units are in the pipeline? Nobody outside of Apple knows for sure if new units are in the pipeline or not. Here we are once again on a Tuesday with no new iMacs. I really don't think we'll see new (read updated) iMacs before WWDC. Also, just as I said earlier, I don't think we will see anything change to the iMac other than processor updates.
I'm hoping for Mini updates sooner than that so I can get one for my wife to replace her G3 iBook and we can give that to her mom to replace the Dell laptop she uses now.

I always buy refurbished units if i can help it.. not just from Apple, but in general. So all of this "should I wait?" crap doesn't effect me a whole lot.

I got my 20" Alu imac refurb on sale.. and couldn't be happier. :D

Just ordered Refurbished iMac 24-inch 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I was really banking on today being the day of a new iMac announcement. Always better to order at the beginning of a product cycle than at the end. Oh well. Unless they come out with something revolutionary next week I will be very happy.

OK I will admit it. I have been stalking the Apple site every Tuesday for the last couple months. I am in the market for an iMac and will slowly be migrating all of my PC's to Macs. I am waiting to see what happens with the newest release. If Apple makes substantial upgrades I will buy the newer version. If not I will then be in a good position to buy the now current model iMac at a significant value.
I don't need an iMac today. I can wait. With as fast as tech becomes obsolete I would like to buy the "latest and greatest" to stretch this time out as far as my budget can go.

get 24 if u have the money cause people complain about the 20 i was looking in another thread

Yeah, I'm starting to think a 24" refurb would be better than a 20" new. But maybe I should still wait until the next model is announced, driving down the prices of the refurbs :)

Because the iMacs were last updated in August was it? There has been heavy speculation that new ones were coming, especially since the MB and MBP were updated to the newer processor. Of course no one knows for sure, but all you have to do is take a quick look around this site and know that there is the possibilty of something new coming out soon.

i really want one now. :( i have been waiting for months! everytime im @ my college campus and i go by the lab i just look @ those new mac pros and sigh. LOL.. i cant wait for the day when i finally get an imac. :D

at first i wasnt sure if i should get a refurbished imac but now i decided i will! now i cant decide on the 20 inch or 24 inch.

Get the 24". The 20" screens are TN screens, which apple was just sued over because they do not produce colors accurately. In contrast, the 24" screens are S-IPS screens, which are better. However, both the 20" and 24" have had their share of screen problems. In fact, I just sent back to Apple a 24" refurb that had backlight bleeding on the bottom left side of the screen and had a gradient problem where the entire left side of the screen was brighter than the right. Hopefully the replacement iMac will be better!

hmmm colors will be important because i will be using photoshop and illustrator. right now im leaning towards the 24 inch but ill have to think about it because ill need a new desk. the biggest this desk can have is like a 19 inch full screen moniter

Its worth every penny (oh well where I am is Cent) so its worth every cent I have spent on my iMac. Apart from the speaker defect, so I am getting a new one after I used my iMac for 1 month :)

iMac me :apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

I also think it's weird that the Macbook received the Penryn update before the iMac. What makes it really weird is that the Macbook had already received an update in November of '07 when the iMac was still left with only the update from August of '07. I'm not really sure, but it kind of suggests that there might be more to the iMac update than just the new Penryn processors.

You are not making the waiting any easier! It does seem like more then just processor upgrades.

I wonder if updates are ever delayed if a product is selling well? As long as they are selling well, maybe they are waiting for their inventory to be bone dry before releasing the update.

I was looking at the amazon bestsellers under desktops and the mini is #1 and #5, iMac is #3, #4 and #7.

I am torn between a 20 and 24" imac. I would love the 24" but am thinking its going to be too big for a desk we have in our kitchen and look gaudy. The 20" would probably look better in this spot but am a little concerned of the coloring of the 20" and missing those extra 4". I already have a first gen mac mini and first gen MBpro. This imac would become the family hub pc. Used for kids, surfing, serving music/movies to a future appletv or converted mini. Any thoughts?

I agree. Most likely they will just drop in the Penryn chips in place of the Merom chips.

At most, they might increase the smallest available hdd size, or they might bump up the gfx card from 256mb to 512mb. And those possibilities aren't really all that likely, since we haven't heard anything about that happening (although lots of people complain about the gfx card in the current imacs, so maybe that will prompt a change).

Hmm... this extra wait makes me think Apple is skipping a straight Penryn upgrade and going Montevina for iMacs and Mac mini seeing as their release is only a little more than a month away. That means it would be a pretty significant upgrade for the iMacs (e.g. 24" 2.4 GHz w/ 4 MB L2 and 800 MHz FSB would go to 24" 2.53 GHz w/ 6 MB L2 cache and 1066 MHz FSB given a linear update).

An upgrade to the Radeon HD 3650 or NVIDIA equivalent and 2 GB RAM standard is also pretty likely.

i just realized ever since the intels came out macs have gone down in price and are not worth as much as like the power pc and that they have have been upgrading more than the powerpcs ever have as i saw and to often.

TBH, I don't think it is weird at all.

When you think about it, giving the Macbook the update to Penryn makes a lot more sense then giving it to the Imac since the new processor produces less heat and consumes less power making the battery life longer whereas it is not really an issue with the Imac.

I got an entry level 20" refurb a few day ago. I think the screen is quite good and a 20" widescreen is plenty big.

It's the biggest screen I've ever used though. I previously had a 17" iMac and a 19" flat-screen CRT on my Windows pc.

I went with the 20" because it's $500 cheaper than the 24" refurb, had a bigger screen than what I used before and the speed was comparable to the 24". I also figured it would be easier to sell the entry level 20" iMac and I wouldn't take as much a hit on it either when it came time to upgrade which could be in a few months if the next iMac models really tempt me. :)

Damn you Apple. Damn you to hell. How dare you update your products and how dare you act as if you're some sort of business trying to make a profit by selling a product.

well its acually intels fault cause there cheap and have to update so often than the powerpcs im looking for a g4 powermac and i was looking at laptops as well i noticed that macbooks are much cheaper than the ibooks where when coming out and being sold at there time i belive intel ruined apple say if they used amd that would be another story
