I didn't get one this past summer because I was afraid locusts might interrupt the delivery.

The Air I ordered was CTO, upgraded to 4GB and also i had education discount applied to it. Those two things are what caused me to order it instead of buy it.

i guess theres no true point to this thread, but i got some good responses from it lol.

I ordered mine ( 4Gb Ram and 2.13 CPU) on 23rd November.
Was scheduled for delivery 6/7th December;
Was actually delivered 30th November - in the middle of snow -
Was returned to Apple 3rd December

Have a late 2008 128Gb SSD MBA and felt that the new one was inferior build quality

Theres only one serious thing about this thread. Waiting to see if a person had bad experience with snow and deliveries.

Define bad. I mean come on. You have to know that UPS/FedEx and other shipping companies are set to handle this. If you define a delay by a couple of days as a bad experience, then it is possible that you'll have one. Let me ask you a question. What are you actually worried about?

That seems to be good and bad news... Its good it arrived earlier than estimated which is very hopeful, but you say is inferior build quality? I would of thought it was much more solid than previous models, no?

I have experience of deliveries in the UK when it snows. Usually they get through on time. As people have said, Apple doesn't hand deliver it. In the UK its UPS and locally at least UPS van drivers won't slow for anything (including speed limits, other cars, rain, snow, good manners).

England and Wales have problems with snow because it is so rare. Nobody has a set of snow tyres because in all likelihood it won'd snow, and when it does snow the roads are gritted until it melts.
And when the snow does fall in reasonable amounts that render grit less effective, we enjoy complaining that the council hasn't gritted the roads enough for us to drive on safely with our 245/30 18" summer tyres.

Well IMHO No - of course I am only 1 of many thousand of purchasers, but:
1. The keyboard was tinnier, less solid and nosier
2. I hated the click of the left/right buttons on the trackpad - yes i know that I could use the tap method, but my 2008 MBA had totally silent right.left click bar. This clicking was really irritating in a quiet environment.
3. The fan came on much more when running the same programmes
4. The palm rests felt rougher to the touch, i guess the casing is of a slightly different material.
5. I feel that the loss of backlit keys was a backward step

On the plus side, the screen depth of colour was better.

However overall, I just felt that it wasn't worth paying the £1300 and I managed to create some additional space on my existing MBA which will last me through to next year

Just curious - all MBA models and BTO options are listed on the Apple UK store as a maximum of 3 days for delivery (some are 24 hours).

So why does your order say a delivery by December 21st?

Its how long Apple builds in for its delivery process. Its usually quicker, but not much. My MBA ordered Saturday has been despatched this morning - delivery expected on or before 17th December.

Oh, got it. The 3 days is actually ships in, and then you allow for whatever extra for delivery.

Thanks. I was curious as I'm ordering one next week (15th), but I guess that won't arrive before Christmas.

Where do the UK ones actually ship from? If they ship it via UPS or another currier then surely it would only take a few days? Not 12... That is if they ship it after 3 days as stated. I wonder if it comes from California or someplace.

All the Airs seem to ship straight from the factory in China. Hence the time it takes to get to you!

I was due to get an iMac last Thursday (was showing as 'scheduled for delivery on 2/12/10). No delivery to date. Tracker is still showing the same thing for the past 4 days.

UPS don't know where it is... local UPS depot says they have 4 trailers parked up in their lot as they have a huge backlog and their warehouse is completely full. Mines is supposedly in there 'somewhere'.

I guess it depends how much snow your area got :(

EDIT: local UPS depot is Glasgow (Cumbernauld).

I contacted the apple support. They apparently have lots of warehouses and it could ship from any one of them. Also they say it CAN arrive sooner than estimated and that, when it's shipped I will get an exact delivery date. Let's hope they send it via UPS and not DHL...

All the BTO stuff I've ordered over the past few years online has come from China - where I'm sure they have a lot of warehouses.

We know - you've been told that a few times already (twice by me)

and that, when it's shipped I will get an exact delivery date. Let's hope they send it via UPS and not DHL...

Sorry Apple Support, wrong guess. Would you like to go for the double Jeopardy where the scores can really change?

My Apple shipment info (supplied today) says:

Shipped on: Dec 6, 2010
Estimated Delivery: 16 Dec, 2010 - 20 Dec, 2010

Now the tracking link says:

Current Delivery Status In Transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule 10 Dec 2010
Estimated Delivery Date (Subject to change) 18 Dec 2010 (Subject to change)

The 10th is in line with the delivery speed for the iPad I mentioned earlier in the thread. But is there an exact date - no. Its still an estimated date of the 18th.
In the UK you usually only KNOW on the day when you start seeing UK tracking info saying "out for delivery".

Or to put it another way - with all the Apple stuff I've bought online I get it delivered to the office and not home, because you just can't tell when its going to turn up.

But hey - maybe your order is different. :)

OP please calm down. Why are you creating an issue that hasn't even happened yet?

Well i got shipping confirmation today. It's estimated for 20th or before. It was sent using Syncreon Technology any ideas? Never heard of them before. It was also shipped from China. Something I don't get, why does it take so long from China?

EDIT: Funny, i tracked the shipment it says 23rd of December... That's rather late I hope it's before that!!! Even though the Email says 20th.
