Rhode Island
So, I just ordered my iPhone tonight. Between the money I earned myself, and with some birthday funds, I finally had enough $$$ to purchase a 4GB refurbished iPhone. How long should I expect for the iPhone to arrive to me here in Rhode Island? Is there anything I need to know beforehand?

I am so excited. At least I'll have school to keep my occupied until it arrives. :D

Congrats!!!!:):apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

You're going to love it!

Woohoo! We're in the same boat. Out in California waiting for my 4GB refurb. I had an iPhone earlier this summer, but due to a temporary financial situation, I was forced to return it.

But, you'll use it for days, as will I, nonstop when you get it!

If it had a camera and 3G, I'd get it...but instead I will be getting a Kaiser for $499 when it comes out. Windows Mobile 6, yep.

Anyways, congrats op!

it does have a camera

My refurb 4G is coming in on Weds. Very excited. Spur of the moment purchase but that's what makes it so great :)

What shipping are you using? Mine is Next Day and damn this 3 day weekend.

I'm using standard free shipping. Just adds to the suspense, but I could be getting it on thursday. :)

Congratulations. I would have went refurb too, if I could have waited this long. I was just musing to a friend that just got his iPhone for his birthday... the iPhone is, as of this moment, the single best electronic device I've ever owned in my entire life (no exaggeration here either).

For perspective here are the rest in order of significance:
5. Commodore Amiga 500
4. iPod (1G)
3. Commodore 128
2. Quadra 840av
1. My iPhone

It could be trumped in the future of course (perhaps, when I move from my G4 to an iMac), but its set a pretty high bar on its capabilites (especially for being just a phone). Warts and all, it has become an integral part of my lifestyle whether entertainment or multi-purpose utility. I can't wait to see what more Apple has in store. A word of advice, though... if someone approaches you with a chip on their shoulder about it, saying "The iPhone isn't so cool." just smile and say, "Maybe not, but I like it." and just keep using it in front of them. Give them the freedom to hate or find an interest in it. This is a device that truly speaks for itself.

There were some advice threads in here about prepping for an iPhone, back around release date or before. I think Apple had some stuff on their website too. Mostly it involved tidying up things like your contacts and photos. Also, if you have a lot of music you're going to need to set up an "iPhone" playlist (you don't have to call it that) into which you put all of the songs you want to have on your iPhone. Then, when you set up the sync, just sync your iPhone playlist to save memory space.

Of course, if you don't have iTunes yet, you can go ahead and download that for free and get going on setting up your music library. You also have to have an iTunes account to set-up an iPhone, so go ahead and do that too (credit card required).

Then I'm set. I actually came up with the iPhone playlist idea on my own, I'm so awesome! Now all I have to do is wait for it to come. WHY CAN'T IT SHIP ALREADY!!! :)

ghall - The best thing to do while waiting for your iPhone is to get all your music in iTunes cleaned up (album art, etc). Update to the latest version. Update your contacts in Address Book (sync with your old phone), update iCal, and set up your most important photos into albums in iPhoto. If you've never had a video iPod before, you might want to poke around and find some good podcasts (National Geographic, Magnum Stories, Insta Spanish, Suicide Girls, etc.). By getting all these things in order first, when you get your phone, you'll be fully up and running in less than 20 minutes, and you'll have tons of content and information on your phone from the get go.

This is time well spent.

Okay, now that that is done, I don't know what to do. I should be getting it sometime between this thursday, and next tuesday.

Just a some questions:
I'm an existing AT&T customer, how long will it take to transfer my number from my old phone to the iPhone? Also, what sort of information do I have to enter in? Since my current phone is under my mom's name, could I change it to be under my name when I turn 18, or not?

Finally this thread is cleaned up :)
Good work Mods.
Why do people come into others threads to bring their negativity and try to talk down on other peoples Iphone purchase?
Some got nothing better to do than sit there on every thread and try to justify to themselves why they're not buying an Iphone like anyone cares.....

Yeah, I got fed up with the crap, and thought it was inappropriate for the forums, so I reported it. Hooray for mods!

Okay, I just started assembling a bookmarks folder of some iPhone apps. So far I have:
Facebook
Digg
hahlo.com twitter client

Any other suggestions for some other good iPhone web apps. I'm not to keen on hacking, so I won't be installing any iPhone native apps.

When you register your iphone, click on "I am an existing ATT customer" and it should transfer your number to your iphone within 2 or 3 minutes, thus completing the activation. Upon activating your iphone, your old sim card becomes worthless. Dont forget to turn off your iphone off and then on again once you activate it. I could receive calls but not make calls after activation and I didnt know what the problem was, so I turned it off and then on and everything worked flawlessly after that.

Check out this site also bro.
Its got some great apps made for the iphone and a few cool games.

Awesome, thanks.

Awesome, thanks. I'm thinking of donating my old phone, should I remove the sim card before I clear out the phone, or should just turning it off and turning back on do the trick?

I think I'm ready for my iPhone. Now where is it? :)
