I have an iPad mini 4. Was looking to get another iPad.
saw Costco had the new iPad 10.2 for a great price.
I did some research and decided the screen was not going to be something I was willing to accept considering it’s not even as good as my mini.
I looked long and hard at a new iPad Air.
Then just by chance I found an iPad Pro 11 256 for 699!
I had to buy it at that price.
So far I’m very pleased with it.
I plan on using it to do some basic GoPro editing while on vacations and such.

I would love to hear any tips or advice from other users.
Thanks in advance.

How's the performance boost?

It's a big difference from the mini 4.
I love the Pro Motion, Face ID, and how quick it imports my GoPro vids.
I haven't used it a lot yet.

As far as the mini 4 goes, we are still using it and it works very well for surfing the internet and watching videos, checking mail, etc.
iPad os did make my mini a much better iPad.

Fantastic! Had mine since the day of release with this case:

I like how the pencil is hidden inside the case.
Cannot wait for next gen coming out in March?

Excellent buy - the 11” Pro is an awesome value, especially as the prices like the OP’s are getting more and more common. We are most likely going to see the prices drop even further as time goes on. I am a finance executive, and the 11” is my main machine for work.

I do a lot of spread-sheeting, forecasting, modeling, and visualization dashboard work in a fast growing, mid-sized tech company. I was skeptical at first, (I actually returned the thing back in February 2019 as with iOS 12 it still wasn’t viable as a work machine) but with iPadOS I decided to give it another go in November 2019, and haven’t looked back since.

I have been firmly entrenched in the iPad ecosystem since the iPad 2 for my personal computing needs (ditched my personal laptop in 2011 completely), have had every single model at some point or another, and always been convinced that it can be a new paradigm in computing - but it has been hamstrung by the OS and software up until iPadOS, and so was never really viable without some major concessions as a worthy work machine.

Now though, things have changed dramatically. Things off the top of my head that have made this a viable work machine:
  • Complete web browsing experience through Safari that allows proper use of powerful financial, project management, CRM and other ERP-level web applications
  • More robust file management
  • Almost completely un-gimped USB-C port
  • Native productivity apps that are blossoming into more and more powerful desktop equivalents
  • Mouse support for use with those massive spreadsheets, precise video and photo editing, and working on an external monitor, or the rare occasion that you need to remote into a desktop environment.
There is no longer a lot to miss once you get going with this machine.

Awesome deal! Personally that’s why I don’t see the point in the air. It’s close to the price of the pro. If you can afford the air you can afford the pro. If you still want a great device on a budget you get the 7.

Not necessarily.

The Air 3 can be had for $400 on sale or just $150 more than the iPad 7. That's closer than the price gap between Air 3 and Pro.

I know most here consider the extra $200-300 for the Pro 11 to be negligible but for others, it may not be. Even if someone could afford the additional expense, they may not consider the extra features of the Pro model worth the cost. Maybe instead of a Pro 11, they'd rather get an Air 3 + Apple Watch or something.

Only point where I would disagree is I don't know how precise and accurate work can you do with the Mouse on Video and Photo editing.

Wow. Bought my 11" 256 GB a few months back in Sweden and it cost me roughly $1100. And that was the best price I could find.

Its very interesting to see how the pricing tiers line up with the actual product features. A $250 iPad7 can do pretty much exactly what I can do on my new Pro11. Smart Keyboard, Pencil, Multitasking, LTE options etc. So, if Apple fails to provide "Pro" OS functions or "Pro" apps then what exactly makes the Pro 3x better than the iPad7 or 2x better than the Air?

I'm not slamming the Pro. I just got one at an amazing price and its great. But, like you said, it gets interesting when you start filling up an $800 shopping cart because you could either get one fancy pants iPad Pro 11 OR an iPad + Homepod + Apple Watch.

It’s a matter of priorities... You don’t see the point as you don’t have the same priorities...
For me speakers are one of the main priorities. However I don’t care about pro motion. So and older pro is fine for me, but not a non pro... Still, USB C is a superior solution, mainly because lightninig is not powered. And the pencil 2 is nicer, but again it depends how important it is for someone...
Also speed. While the A10 is fast (similar to my A9X is not slightly better), the A12 and A12X and on another lever of smoothness...
Also personally for instance I don’t care about Homepods or Apple Watch.... Again priorities...

Yep, all about personal priorities.

This is why I think the current good (iPad), better (iPad Air & mini), best (iPad Pro) lineup works quite well. iPadOS itself might be the same but there are enough features to differentiate between the various tiers.

There's also the various configuration options to consider.

For $600-700, there are those who would rather have the latest model Pro 11 64GB Wi-Fi (probably most people). Personally, I'd rather get a 256-512GB LTE Air 3 or Pro 10.5 at that price.

Mind, while the 32GB Wi-Fi iPad 7 for $230-250 is my usual recommendation for others just wanting a good, basic tablet, it's a no-go for me personally because storage is too low for my usage.

May I ask where you’re seeing the Air 3 for 400? That’s a good deal!

I figured the same thing when I revisited the Pro in November last year. It runs iPadOS, has all the accessories except USB-C... but when playing around in-store, I logged in and brought up a fairly large and complicated Google Sheet in Safari that I work with often - its got scripts, database and API calls on multiple tabs, range imports from other sheets, etc. and I ran it side by side with the Pro 11 and the new 10.2” iPad7...I mean iPad7 could barely handle it, it was borderline unusable just to move around in, while the Pro was smooth as butter, better actually than the 13” MBP I had with me as a comparison. That is what convinced me to get the Pro.

Moms, baby! Hack off that 25% VAT tax we Swedes pay and you get a 256GB for $880 USD...that’s still a pretty decent price for a 256GB model...

Sale comes and goes on Amazon and Best Buy. I've even seen the 256GB LTE Air 3 for $600 on Amazon ($180 off $779 MSRP) week before Valentine's.

Pretty much all currently sold iPads apart from the mini 5 have gone on sale for $100+ off at one point of another. Alas, it's possible COVID-19 might be causing shortages. A lot of the Air 3 configurations are out of stock right now on Amazon.
