iPad Pro Just picked up an iPad Pro 11

I figured the same thing when I revisited the Pro in November last year. It runs iPadOS, has all the accessories except USB-C... but when playing around in-store, I logged in and brought up a fairly large and complicated Google Sheet in Safari that I work with often - its got scripts, database and API calls on multiple tabs, range imports from other sheets, etc. and I ran it side by side with the Pro 11 and the new 10.2” iPad7...I mean iPad7 could barely handle it, it was borderline unusable just to move around in, while the Pro was smooth as butter, better actually than the 13” MBP I had with me as a comparison. That is what convinced me to get the Pro.

Out of curiosity, did you try the spreadsheet on an Air 3 (so A10 vs A12 vs A12X)? I'm very curious about performance differences in real-world applications between the various iPads but $1700+tax (1TB LTE) was just too much for me to spend on a whim. 😅

No I get that. Mine is company provided in lieu of a MacBook Pro, so it is maxed for longevity’s sake - i.e. I most likely won’t be changing it for 3+ years, so could justify going 1TB mostly for access to the 6GB RAM.

I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to play with the new Air or the old 10.5” Pro (I had the 10.5” Pro previously since its launch until Feb. 2019, then sold it to get the new 11” initially, then wasn’t impressed as per my previous post, and so fell back on my trusty Mini 4 for 9 months, which is the machine that I was introduced to iPadOS on.)

One thing I could say to you though...in regards to the cost of the 1TB models...put together your 3 higher capacity iPad models you already have, and you probably get to an 11” or even 12.9” 1TB model with the 3 “essential” accessories - AP2, ASK and Apple’s 3 way USB-C dongle...just saying ☺️

True dat. I just figured the original poster wrote the price they payed, which would then include the VAT.

May I ask where you’re seeing the Air 3 for 400? That’s a good deal!

Costco frequently has the 64gb Air 3 on sale for $399. Right now, Micro Center has the 256GB Air 3 for $569. Deals are out there; you just have to look for them.

Not super concerned about longevity. I'd likely be itching for a new toy by year 2. 😅

Work is entrenched in Windows (and I do have work-provided Windows desktop and laptop).

Reality is given my usage, there's really nothing that the Pro 11 does that my current iPads are inadequate at meeting. I would like 1TB and more RAM but it's not a burning want. Indeed, betting the Air 3 has better battery life than the Pro 11 and that's something I appreciate more than overkill performance.

Mind, I don’t actually view the Pencil or ASK to be particularly essential and my Logitech Crayon's supposed to work on the 2018 Pros. Hence, all I really need to consider is the cost of the iPad itself. 🙂

Great buy. I bought my 11" pro with LTE full-price at a localApple reseller. It was maybe €100 cheaper elsewhere but quality service is worth it. I use it more and more. At the moment, I'm doing lots of annotations on architectural drawings in Files. The architect sends them in PDF format, I jot down locations e.g. for PCs or beamers and wiring diagrams. I then send those around for more detailed technical planning.

I have to say that the iPad Pro struggles a little bit rendering these files, but it's handwritten annotations on pretty detailed plans meant for printing on A2 size or larger. And my macbook pro also struggles a bit with them. The iPad keeps going, even if I open up Outlook or GoodNotes split-screen with such a PDF (or even 2 of such PDFs split-screen side to side!)

I have most on my mac but copy stuff to Onedrive for mobile work. 64gb is plenty this way.
