One bird shares music with the other through wifi - fire symbolizes the transfer; transfer complete, the bigger bird has color and they now both rock to the same song - great marketing and creative at the same time.

Mind you I do too think MS has no taste or creativity, but honestly this commercial is nice.
MS did well, as long as you think different.

Yeah, but if you don't know about it's wifi capabilities than it doesn't really make sense. It's like they have gone out of their way to try and "think different" and it really shows what a pathetic attempt it is.

Seems like it clashes fundamentally with the whole 'Don't be a follower! Be unique!' thing they're trying to press on people.

So, they try to buy iPod owners by calling them sheep, and then release a commercial the theme of which is 'HEY NOW YOU CAN BE BEAUTIFUL JUST LIKE ME.'

Methinks there be some communication problems here.

Not to mention that screaming paper birds on fire are creepy, not cool.

Yeah. Did anyone else get extremely creeped out when the bird began to scream and thrash convulsively after it had been lit on fire?

According to this ad, your Zune can: incinerate animals. And then you.

I think I see what you mean, but when I first saw the commercial (on YouTube), I was a little freaked out. Is it creative? Sure, a little crazy, but yea. Is it good marketing? Not sure about that since a first reaction to the commercial might freak someone out. IMO, it looks as though the bird is being burned alive. So it is good marketing in that I remember the commercial, but what I'm remembering is a bird lit on fire who seems in pain, followed by the Zune logo.

But that's me just me....

I don't get it, to be honest. I didn't have the volume up, but going to a live concert to promote an MP3 player doesn't seem to be a very good marketing scheme. Anyone else see it? Have I missed another thread about it?

In the words of Homer Simpsons "Jokes...... I get jokes"

But seriously I don't feel as stupid now because no one else seems to get it either.

Or does it mean for everyone person who doesn't buy a Zune Bill will come to your home hose you down in petrol and set you alight

Like the brown Zune this ad is crap as well.

The irony of that statement is that in being unique the stupid bird is ultimately conforming to the other birds will.

Just saw the ad. To sum it up:

W T F !!!!!!!!!

You said it all, I'm no Apple fanboy, usually I argument my anti-microsoft position but c'mon, this commercial doesn't even leaves you room to defend it, it's horrible visually (a bird on fire???) and it doesn't relate to the product at all, it could be a commercial for deodorant as far as I know, imagine in the end "Dove" appearing, LOL! And the song they picked, what the all is that ?? "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" f*ck man, I almost feel sorry for the ad company that thought this crap up.
Edit: I mean, they wanna be creative? look at Sony's Bravia LCD's ad (the one with the bouncing balls downtown San Francisco), now that was creative, you see the balls, you wonder what does the ad refer to and in the end, "Color like no other", people would stick to the screen when that ad began with their mouths wide open, brilliantly directed. The feedback I get from this Zune commercial is someone coming into my room asking me to lower the TV volume :D
