I would never get an Android device to begin with. I would not want to lose the integrations with my Apple Watch, Homekit devices, Macs, and much more. I never understood why we even need to compare Android devices to the iPhone to begin with as most of us are also in the same boat, especially here on Macrumors.

What is wrong with keeping your old iPhone?

I don’t understand why people think you must be either Apple or Android instead of both.

The 120Hz screen of the Ultra is simply amazing, however after some time you realize it’s same old Android, which just a year ago I loved but as I have become more used to iOS’s polish I now I notice Androids inconsistencies all over the place.
This has to be one of the most ironic things I've read in here in some time!

Same old Android? IOS has literally been the same since its inception, it also has its fair share of inconsistencies.

Nobody denied that iOS also has its own issues, but I am pretty sure my post mentioned that the main thing I like about it is it’s polish.

If you don’t agree with me that’s fine. I’m just talking from my own experience.

I don't disagree but to say Android is one thing when IOS is the same is indeed ironic. That was my point.

I too think there is a little more polish on IOS apps but that's by the by.

But I never claimed iOS wasn’t the same, I come from a decade of using Android, so to me I felt like this is something I had already been used to outside of the new hardware.

Exactly this. Nor do I have the desire to. Dual SIM was a godsend to be able to have both my work phone and my personal phone in one device. Work was totally ok with it, so I’m happy.

Silly me, I didn’t realize that iOS and Android only ran on phones.

Many people, including myself use both iOS/iPadOS alongside Android devices for many reasons, not just on a device to make calls with.

How ignorantly ridiculous that post is. Obviously you don’t know much about Android at all.

I use an iPad Pro and a Pixel 3XL everyday for work and both iOS and Android are very good and just as easy and enjoyable to use. The big difference in the experience is that Android allows nearly infinite ways to customize every single aspect of the user interface, and apps can change it altogether. I’d be happy to be able to rearrange and position icons on the home screen on my iPad. Heck, I’d love to be able to resize the icons with more than just two options. It’s funny really, when iPadOS was introduced it was universally praised for finally being able to (somewhat) take advantage of the iPad’s large screen, and yet it still doesn’t accomplish that task anywhere near where it should.

I would be curious about the fine details as to why Android is an ‘acquired taste’.

Exactly. I’m honestly bored with the iPhone. It’s been basically the same since the very first one from a home screen perspective. I had the S4 and loved it. I got the Note 9 and only returned it because I couldn’t get my music from iTunes to it successfully. I found apps that could accomplish that but none of them could do it because as a classical music lover I have have about 20 different Symphony No. 7’s for example, and it see it as duplicates and not let me add more than one, which was annoying.

If the next generation of the iPhone looks like the current one, I’m out. I’ll figure it out if I have to regarding the music come hell or high water.

Apple needs to up their game and finally allow for customization. I get it that the closed OS makes it better and more stable, but they could at least create themes and different options to allow for pseudo-customization.

I'm an Android user, but I don't see why the poster's opinion of Android being an "acquired taste" is "ignorant" at all. Acquired taste means some people may like it, some people may not, as simple as that.

I'm going to say as far as your counter rant being unable to arrange icons to be the "ignorant" one as that is probably the least of issue for many.

Consistent iPhone user here.

Every few years I give the newest Android model a try and see if the user experience has caught up. Starting with the G1, then another Android when the 4S was out, and a Xiaomi when the 7 was out. I was never fully sold but it definitely improved with each model.

In terms of hardware, the Ultra is an experience. I definitely recommend going to a store to try one out. The display alone made want to buy one. Camera was decent but it has the Android look, to put it simply. (Different sharpness, the exposure seems odd, skin tones looked odd IMO, etc)

The software is much more fine grained allowing for more control, and it feels like interactions are more “manual.” Different polishes are missing, eg I tried going to YouTube and pulling up the controls seemed less... “easy?”

I’ve decided to stick to iOS for its polish, but after using the S20 it feels like something’s missing on the iPhone (90-120Hz). The user interface is less smooth on iOS but more streamlined.

(That’s all, and thanks for reading. Just an Apple fanboys opinion)
The Ultra is overhyped. The S20/+ are the real gems this year for Samsung.
And Samsung has gone quite far in software. The Single Take feature is really neat, definitely something a consumer can really find useful.

And yes, Android is akin to the "Windows" of smartphone. It's great, but as a user, you need to pay attention to many things "manually."

You missed the point I was making about the icons. With iOS and iPadOS there is no way to arrange icons so you can add and position widgets as needed. iPadOS has the widget column but it’s extremely limited. iPads have very large screens, and yet there are very few options for the user to take advantage of that space. Only last year did we finally Have some customization of the home page. I don’t want to have to swipe or whatever gesture is needed to access functions I should have where I want them. That is a very big deal for people like me that use an iPad every day for work.

I always have an iDevice and a droid and currently that is the Pro Max and S20+ (Best of the S20s IMO)

I have to say the 120hz coupled with the 240hz touch response is really noticeable, my Pro Max actually feels sluggish in comparison. Never thought I'd say that, I actually was going to gp back to the max yesterday but just could not do it.

Also agree re the criticism of iOS, new icons aside home screens look no different to iOS 1 really. Even if they do not want to allow more customisation wrapping icons from the top rather than the bottom is just really dumb IMO given how large phones have got.

It’s like.cheating on a woman or man
Most of the time you go back to what you had originally

My brother in law just got the S20 ultra. Hardware is nice and the screen is gorgeous. Software seems the same as it always is each year.

I was really interested in the so called 100x space zoom and was sorely disappointed. What a load of rubbish! The picture quality is so awful. Total gimmick!
