He has been that for a long time now. Marrying into the Kardashian clan is only going to make it worse.

You don't really think the move to marry into that trash whore clan wasn't at all calculated, do you? I would wager a fair amount to say that he has little interest in that girl but marrying into that clan certainly helped his end game.

I have no doubt about that.

I don't pretend to know the full economic ramifications of playing the iTunes Festival.

But a quick glance at the acts that play suggests - to me at least - that artists who participate feel that it is worth their while. Katy Petty; Usher; Lady Gaga; One Direction; Norah Jones; etc. etc.

These aren't people struggling to get their careers off the ground. They are established artists with global followings. And many of them probably see the opportunity to play The Roundhouse in London; where tickets are only available (for free) to fans who win a contest - as an opportunity to introduce their music to a still-larger global audience.

If Kanye West's ego is such that he feels he is being "dissed" if he doesn't get a $250,000 check from Apple; then its his loss - and a loss for his fans. He can keep dealing with promoters, and soaking his followers for a couple of hundred dollars each (plus the credit card and Ticketron fees) - plus whatever the scalpers can add on.

Word up, Kanye - sometimes you get so caught up in your own %%% that you can't see the bigger picture.

If artist performing at the iTunes festival don't get paid then he has a valid point.

You know that iTunes gives away the tickets for free too, right? And obviously pay big money to book the venue.

Artists get lots of free publicity, as well as extra sales from "live at the iTunes festival" recordings. If this was such a bad deal then they wouldn't be able to book the Roundhouse ~30 nights/year, with multiple great artists each night, would they?

Kanye is a caricature of himself. Enjoy his music and mute his rants.

I can't enjoy his "music" as you call it either.

If artist performing at the iTunes festival don't get paid then he has a valid point. Not sure if he is directing his anger at the right people though. This might be something that Cook has nothing to do with.

Doesn't stop his music from sucking though.

Yeah but Kanye is rich too, so can't he perform for free? The very reason he doesn't want to play free for Apple is because Tim Cook is rich, is the reason he should play for free.

The iTunes festival would promote his music. Apple doesn't pay, Kanye wouldn't get paid, but it would help promote music on the iTunes store helping Kanye and Apple.

I understand the idea of the iTunes Festival. But obviously Kanye doesn't like it. He'd obviously prefer the cash rather than the potential for increased recognition and sales.

I don't think I'd even want Kanye at the iTunes Festival. Last song I heard off him had more 'niggas' than Django Unchained.

but...but....Kanye is rich, couldn't he do the concert for free? I don't know a "song" from him, and proud of it. Don't like the genre (since the 80's), and especially him.

I'm sorry, but no. He's one "artist" I refuse to give a chance, even if other well respected musicians praise his "talents".

I realize it's possibly hypocritical of me, as lots of artists like being in the spotlight and doing things for media attention, some of whom I probably am a fan of. However, I don't like his brand of attention-getting (or as I refer to it, attention whoring), or his persona, and I refuse to contribute to it.

I'd care more if Tim said Kanye sucked.

Who cares what Kanye says… we should all be ignoring him so he goes away. Yeezus was a total waste of plastic and bandwidth.

If I'm honest, I think we should see his refusal to do it as a blessing in disguise.

Amen, I have a friend at work who just saw him a couple of days ago. She has ranted about how great of a show he puts on and how good his music is. Maybe he does put on a good show, the pictures she showed looked pretty cool. I still can't get past his attitude or the current quality of that genre altogether.

She did agree he is an ******* though.

Kanye used to make decent music. The albums titles that have something to do with school(like graduation and late registration) were pretty good. His latest albums suck.

Managed _once_ to get tickets for the iTunes festival in London. Result was three CD sales, and a few recommendations to friends. Nowadays you get a lot of TV coverage as well which should be good advertisement.

Who cares what he thinks, he has trouble selling out his own concerts

The question is: Was he asked to play?

Forgot about that. All the live recordings are sales that the artists wouldn't have had otherwise. I'd be curious how that works out with their recording contracts. Since Apple is the one making the recordings and not the record companies, I'd like to know how much of the sales proceeds goes to the artists.
