It's really here this time, no spam, no false sites. This is it. I can use the FastTrack network on my mac. It's hard to install but it's worth it.

You don't download it. You make it. Go to gottsilla.net/forums. Click on Sticky: Compiling giFT. Follow the instructions. Then when you get it running, go to sticky: Installing fastTrack plug-in. Follow them. If anyone has a question you can ask me at AHDuke99@aol.com Good Luck.

Hmmm

dont u need to download the daemon and a gui client whats it supposed to run on thin air, and those couple lines of code cant do all.... i see it in ur picture it says GIFT.....i cant make that window by running those terminal cammonds u gave me...

Edit below:

From http://www.gottsilla.net/forums

2. "cd" to the your giFT directory (the one with the sources you downloaded from cvs)

yea THATS what i need... now where do i download that?? I cant "Make that" i am not that skilled!!!!

hmm.. looks promising, but on my first run-through I seem to have a problem with the debian package thing, dselect, actually installing any files. I can select the packages, but when I go to install them it says there are no new packages, etc. also, the
./autogen.sh CPPFLAGS=-I/sw/include LDFLAGS=-L/sw/lib --enable-gnutella
line results in an error partway through saying that (surprise) the libtool package that didn't install isn't there.

I will look at it a little more seriously sometime this weekend. it certainly seems promising.

thats not kazaa...its giFT. its basically a clone of the fasttrack network, but you still can't access the kazaa networks. kazaa has blocked out all open source implementations of their network.

this is essentially the same as giFTbox

OMG! What a huge pain in the arse! As much as I'd love to be able to access all the stuff on KaZaA from my Mac, I'll stick with the 'real' thing on my PC. This looks like way to much hassle.

i don t see why you should give yourself such a pain. first of all the fasttrack network is full of fakes. secondly, mldonky has integrated it already, and all you have to do to get mldonkey to run are 3 commands in the terminal...
am i wrong?

i got it installed, compiled and ready to set up...but when i get to that step: type: "giFT setup" i get errors about missing protocol files... poop!

er wait, it seems to be working now

there's an invisible file that is .tc something. it's in your home folder. it causes that error. remove it and it should work. also make sure you install fink through the termminal. http://fink.sourceforge.net/download/index.php

This is the fasttrack network. After you make giFT you install the FastTrack plug-in for Fasttrack. Since when does giFT have 4,000,000 users anyway. I've been getting tons of results using Poisoned(the GUI) and FastTrack.

thanks for the heads up on that one. i can, but i was more wondering if you guys use it to get music for free or trade programs or what.

it keeps not being able to find the @$%ing openFT protocol file after i've finished setting it up and attempt to run giFT for the first time in the terminal? whats going on?

Personally, I use it for anything, and everything...especially when I don't want to (sssshhhh) pay for it! ;) :p

well i finally got it all working, but now i think the campus resnet has all the ports blocked!

It sounds to me like a complicated program. Let me know when they come out with an all-in-one package of it, and i will use it. Till then i will stick with Acquosition and LimeWire.

i've been using the giftbox betas periodically and downloaded the new one when i heard about the fasttrack plugin. i followed the gotsilla instructions for building giFT and the fasttrack plugin, but gift would never launch (some problem with the config file) and the fasttrack plugin would never compile (something about a missing mac option in the makefile). does anyone who has compiled it have a link to a binary (pm or otherwise)? it should be a file called FastTrack.so located somewhere on your computer.

did you listen this connects to openFT, the giFT network AND fasttrack with the plugin.

oh well

looking at the instructions...

and thinking about kazzaa
and remembering not finding anything for the mac on it,
seeing slow speeds on the pc, and my limited HD space on the ibook
I don't fancy to set it up.

maybe once they hav an installer for it, but for the time beeing - i might as well port edonkey to macosx.

I use it for downloading bootlegs. I have quite an impressive collection of obscure radiohead tracks and even more obscure REM ones (like "Smiling Furry Monsters" featuring Sesame Street)
