Which is possible... Apple changed the iMac case a LOT a few months ago... (So much that you can't replace the HDD any more without voiding the warranty)

Maybe they will make a cooler more efficient case....

Water cooling? LOL
Apple hasn't made any changes since Revision C of the iMac G5. Please don't say LOL INTEL!!!1

I'm sorry to say but there is no such thing as getting it right the first time around.
Yes, there is. Instead of buying the last of an old chip architecture, buy the first of the new :)

Which is exactly what the current iMac has: 64-bit Core 2 Duo.

That in turn will keep evolving and improving (Santa Rosa, higher Ghz, etc. etc.), which is what computers always do. But at this moment the chip architecture in Macs has crested an important wave, and that makes it a good time to buy.

I always tell people to wait IF they don't really need something yet. But if you need something, now isn't a bad time. Leopard won't cost much, as people have said.

You could wait for January to get iLife 07 (probably), but I make do skipping every other iLife version. The OS is a more important upgrade for me, and that's many months away.

Devil's Advocate: What was wrong with the Core Duo iMac? -- "absolutely nothing"

I agree with that statement as well. I'll do you one better actually - I have no issues whatsoever with my 3-year old 1.25 GHz G4 iMac - she still runs like a dream! :p ;)

I bet,

I wouldn't mind that either!

It is human nature to want the new shiny thing... Even if it is not all that much better...

It is not my fault, it is all the brain washing I have had over the years :p

But hey,

I must be getting better as I am now trading in my PC for a Mac... Right?

What about the G5? Wasn't that a "desktop" chip? It probably ran a lot hotter than Conroe but I don't know the specs.
the iMac G5 had half a crippled G5. single core? come on. that G5 wasn't a laptop chip, but it was CERTAINLY a very skimpy desktop chip.
