Getting a lot of kernel panics with my nMP, resulting in system freeze followed by black screen, restart and "Your computer was restarted...." error message. Problems seem to occur when pushing the system, rendering video etc.
Extensive hardware tests for 80 hours at our local ceritified reseller don´t come up with any errors.
I have installed / replaced RAM, reset everything, done clean install of the OS, test-run the OS without any external hardware attached and pretty much anything that one can do. I am at loss here on what to do next.....the crash reports seem to point towards the CPU, but I am no engineer and can not read these reports accurately.

Any input would be highly valued and appreciated.

The nMP is known to have GPU issues and your problem may be the result of a failing GPU. If it's under warranty then my advice is to take it to Apple. If not I would contact Apple to discuss the GPU issue. Apple has a program in place to repair units with faulty GPUs regardless of warranty status.

According to our local reseller, this nMP is not covered by Apple´s exhange program (probably not produced within the time limits of the program). It is also not under warranty. So I am at loss on what to do next.

I would recommend checking with Apple as they have a great reputation for handling things even when they technically fall outside of support.

All that aside did you make any changes to your system? If so the first thing I would recommend is to back them out. You also may want to try removing memory modules to determine if one (or more) are causing the problem. Any external peripherals plugged in? If so try disconnecting them.

Yep, take it into Apple, not a reseller. The nMP is known for these GPU related kernel panics and Apple generally does the right thing and replaces the GPUs free of charge.

Thanks for answering. I have not made any changes to the system. I have removed memory modules one by one and in pairs, replaced them with modules from another nMP, removed all peripherals apart from 1 monitor, mouse and keyboard - basically anything you can thing of - but with no avail. As stated above, I have also done a clean install to rule out software issues.

It sounds as though you’ve done everything except swap the CPU. If your reseller is an authorized Apple repair shop see if they will try that for a reasonable price - would eliminate or confirm it’s the CPU. But I agree with the others who say to contact Apple directly.

They are an authorized Apple repair shop, yes (there are no Apple stores in Norway). CPU will cost around 735 USD. Should be a no cure, no pay option here...

Print this out and take it to the authorised reseller? Your nMP GPUs are very likely defective and should be replaced by Apple under their repair program.
https://9to5mac.com/2016/02/06/apple-mac-pro-repair-program-graphics-video/

Here's more info:
Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will repair eligible Mac Pro models affected by the video issues free of charge until May 30, 2018. Apple lists a turnaround time of about 3-5 days.

https://www.macrumors.com/2016/02/06/late-2013-mac-pro-video-issues-repair-program/

Which GPU do you have and when was the nMP manufactured?

I would go back to the reseller and push for them to replace the GPUs under the repair program. I would put money on your issue being bad GPUs. Maybe they can loan you some D300s for a bit to test?
It is almost NEVER a faulty CPU in the nMP.

are you also getting crashes if there are no external devices (USB hub; Blackmagic; Pegasus RAID) connected to the system? usually, if the GPU is failing, the system's not giving kernel panics...

using your fovourite internet search engine, one should be able to find the Apple Service Diagnostics for the Mac Pro (Late 2013). look out for "ASD" and "3S159".

also, you're still running macOS High Sierra 10.13. installing the 10.13.1 update can't hurt...

They are an authorized Apple repair shop, yes (there are no Apple stores in Norway). CPU will cost around 735 USD. Should be a no cure, no pay option here...
I wouldn’t buy a “new” cpu as you have a 6-core. I would get your own and ask for a flat rate repair charge.

If Apple isn’t playing ball for a warranty exchange maybe do a little upgrade to a 10 core? :)

I would not be changing the CPU at this point. It is very unlikely that the CPU is the problem and once you do a major change like that, your own modifications complicate the issue.

Many people in the giant "nMP faulty GPU thread" have managed to use that GPU recall campaign even though their Mac was outside the date range, and even for the D300 (which isn't one of the models covered in the campaign). I would appeal directly to Apple instead of a third party reseller or authorized repair shop--I assume the third parties have to follow Apple stated policy 100% whereas Apple has clearly and repeatedly shown leniency.

Failing all that, check your credit card for warranty extension benefits. Typically credit cards will double the manufacturer warranty. I've used this benefit myself with my iPhone. What you do is get it repaired and then submit a claim to the credit card company to reimburse you for the repair.

Your GPU is defective, this is a common issue with nMP's. Contact Apple support, they will fix it for free.

Wanganui, New Zealand.
I see you live in one of the many countries where Apple Stores do not exist. I can relate to that. However as has been stated there was obviously a GPU issues with your model machine, I would contact apple directly.

Yes, the panics also occur with no periferrals connected to the system.

In Asia, we often have to deal with the reseller and no warranty provide directly by the original company.

I found that the best way to deal with it is to contact the original company first, via email or support page. Get some black and white prove that your product is covered by warranty / repair programme. And then take everything to the reseller.

Sometimes the reseller will still charge you or refuse to provide any service. In this case, contact the original company’s support again. Ask them to deal with the reseller.

By using this “procedure”, so far all of my hardware issues are solved properly. It may be a bit more complicated. And sometimes may need to wait for months until the money back into my pocket (e.g. reseller improperly charge for the RMA). But always happy ending.

After talks with Apple and sending system diagnostics, Apple said crash reports are pointing towards faulty RAM. Bought new OWC RAM and replaced it - still crashes. Did a clean install of High Sierra on external drive, ran OS from there and opened up a few YouTube videos - still crashes (report below).
I an anxious to see where this is going to go...
