Kevin Rose, who has reported correctly on iPhone rumors in the past has just said live on ustream that he has heard from a "75% reliable source" that the next iPhone will have a FM Radio built in.

I don't have a recording of it but ustream records so after they have stopped going live you will be able to listen back I think...

I find it hard to believe but you never know.

UPDATE: They have stopped being live. The recording doesn't seem to be up. Its starts around minute 45.

Yah? Well I heard Alex Albrecht say that the new iPhone will have AM, sup now?

Yeah that's what we need, 18th century technology on the next iPhone

I would be happy with a decent streaming radio app that doesn't crap out 5 minutes into. If anyone knows of one, let me know. I have pandora, Flycast and AOL Radio.

EDIT: "I see what you did there" are you watching Conan O'brien because I swear he just said that as you typed it

My old gym used to have TV's up and you would listen to them by tuning to a specific FM channel. This would have been handy then. New gym has TV's on everything and you just plug in your headphones.

I could see this as an attachment to the dock adapter for radio listening and tuning in at gyms like someone mentioned, but I don't see the point now. iPods never had FM tuners years ago when numerous mp3 players did, so why do that now? The only way I see this happening is if said FM tuner works with HD Radio. If that's the case, what keeps an AM tuner from also being added?

If all this does happen, that smells an awful lot like Apple trying to make more headway into car units. Think an Apple unit that is just a bunch of circuits until you dock an iPod or iPhone. Then maybe you could control the bloody thing better than figuring out a 3-inch touchscreen while driving.

Hasn't there been a hidden radio app in the firmware for a long time? I really like the iheartradio app, but I would like to be able to listen to my local stations on my phone. I doubt Mr. Rose is correct in his predictions, though. I don't remember his track record being very good.

Next he's gonna say that the next iPhone will have a case made out of wood... to remember the radios from 40 years ago....

pffff.... he's just shooting blanks... what's he's next trick?!? guessing the lottery numbers?!?

Maybe digital Radio not the old school type.

Digital radio would be even better.

Pressuring "major mp3 player" manufacturers to include DAB radios to encourage digital switchover was mentioned as a part of British goverment stategy in a paper recently.

An FM Transmitter built in would be awesome, but I don't really see the need for a receiver.
