This should point you in the right direction. The keyboard folio works really well but the exterior is not high quality and quite frankly does not feel like an Apple product. I've found mine is showing wear and tear a bit as well. However, putting a skin on it makes a world of difference and it looks a lot nicer.
Looking at purchasing one from that site. How difficult was it to install the skin? Good quality? Are you concerned the skin will cause damage to the exterior of the folio that will be apparent if/when it’s removed?

I’d say it’s very good quality. I went through 2 or 3 skins before settling on one and when I removed them there was no damage.

My white folio started to do that. I bought a red 3rd party case on amazon for a 5th of the cost and it’s still mint condition. Has to be a materials issue with the Apple units. Will be taking mine to Apple for a replacement/refund.

Stopped by a local apple store today to see if I can get a replacement and the employee went to go check with his manager and they said it was cosmetic and they would not replace it since Apple has not acknowledged that the wrinkles are a known defect. For those that successfully managed to get a replacement do you have any suggestions or insight as to how you got yours replaced?

I got the smart keyboard folio for the new 11" iPad pro about one month ago. It is already seriously worn at one point, see picture. It's right in the middle on top edge. This is where I put my thumb when I pick up the iPad 90% of the time. It's almost like my thumb has made an indentation, or made the outside plastic loose. As far as I know, nothing else has damaged the keyboard folio; and I didn't have chemicals or grease on my thumb. Come on. The keyboard folio should be able to withstand one month of picking it up! What can I do? I have AppleCare+, but it doesn't cover the keyboard folio. The keyboard folio should still be under ordinary warranty, and this is certainly no ordinary wear, but it's hard to prove that nothing else happened. Anybody else seen anything like this?

That’s a bummer. I’ve had mine since the beginning and it’s just fine. I wipe it with Clorox wipes because it does pick up fingerprints. I’m not saying you did something to cause this, but you absolutely have grease, sweat and dirt on your thumb. Your hands pick up gunk all day long. Still, I can’t believe normal usage would cause that. I wonder if you got a lemon or something.

It’s absurd that Apple’s cover needs its own cover. It would be funny if it weren’t so symptomatic of the new Apple: poorly designed products not meant to be used by real humans.

I agree. What’s annoying is there is no protective coating of any kind on it. It gets dirty and grimy so quickly. Clorox wipes make it look new, but it is annoying to have to do that continually.

My keyboard folio for my 11 inch pro is seriously worn. I also picked up a 12.9 inch (wanted to go bigger, need to sell my 11) and its 2 months in, so far so good. But my folio for the 11, which is still under warranty, is very worn in the middle on the back side. I am very careful with my apple products, and never sat the folio on anything wet, or rough, etc. Just normal usage. I am hesitant to take it into the store as I have seen stories where they have been replaced and denied.

If you have an Apple store nearby, take it in and explain what’s happened. Just be honest and polite and they’ll likely exchange it for you.

If for some reason you don’t get anywhere with the first person you speak with, politely ask to speak to a manager.

I think that is good advice. But a replacement will, in my experience, give only temporary relief. Yes, I know nothing lasts forever. But my earlier iPads with Apple covers did not fail me like the current model. I do own an Apple keyboard folio. I rarely use it. But I suspect that it will succumb to similar issues even with gentle use.

I did receive a replacement for my Apple folio at my local APPLE store but 2 months on I’m seeing finger prints that can’t be removed and marks that have erupted into marks. I’m sure, like the original issue, I will see wavy patterns next.

So, should I go back to Apple for the second time? I might just try and just store it for use when I had the iPad down to one of the kids.

I’ll probably look for a cheap folio, and a nice leather folio. With the Apple’s form over function material I really expected more. I think leather looks far classier with wear. My only regret is I like the minimalistic design of the Apple folios.

I have a feeling that manufacturers will soon abandon the iPad Pro 2018 12.9’ for the next big thing from Apple. So I might as well be ready for that by going third party.

Verizon is delivering my replacements for my 11" and 12.9" today. I won't re-buy them again. I hope I don't have this issue again. I have the smart folio for both my 11" and 12.9" and do not have any quality issues with them at all.
It happens to all of the Apple Folio’s. The quality of the 2018 Pro cases is trash. I’ve had Apple replace mine every couple months once the rippling starts.

Same thing happened to me last week. They told me it was normal wear and tear on my 8 month old iPad 11 keyboard. That is crazy, as none of my others did that. For $200, they should be replacing as it looks ancient. Very sad on Apple's part....

I have posted about this issue before. I agree that Apple really dropped the ball on this. The design works great. I like that it is so minimal. It is just that the materials the folio is made of is so fragile. Apple might as well made it out of crepe paper. Heck my first Apple folio got the crepe paper look from everyday handling.

I’m an Apple fanboy from the Apple //+ and beyond. But this accessory just plain sucks. I have not found a third party folio that uses the magnetic mounting, and minimal design I like on Apple’s folio.

It will be interesting to see if Apple re-designs the folio, with better materials, for the next generation. I doubt they will release a better product for the 2018 iPad.

I have an appointment at the with a genius tomorrow. My folio case is completely falling apart. When you add in the front and fold it to the back the silicone sticks so that when you try to close the lid it holes on the silicon and it’s all coming way when you add in the front and fold it to the back the silicone sticks so that you have to peel the front off the back of the case and it’s all coming away

I wish you the best of luck with getting a free replacement. You have lots of company regarding these kinds of issues with this Apple product. What a hassle!

LOL - you are so right. I sure hope the next gen are much better. I tried the Brydge and really liked it, but ended up returning it. I don't need two keybords and the Apple one was already paid for.

I’ve really been tempted by the Brydge. I need to see one in person. The weight factor is something I’d have to weigh in my hand. I did order the new Twelve South iPad Pro leather folio.

I hate to say it but I’m not sure I will like it vs. the minimal Apple folio and Apple Keyboard folio (despite Apple’s now we’ll known durability issues).

It truly is sad that the iPad Pro’s great form factor and design doesn’t have an Apple accessory that does it justice. I just sigh every time I look at the exterior of my Apple folio and keyboard folio.

That said I’m also perplexed that some third party hasn’t really come up with a minimal form factor folio that trips my trigger. Pad & Quill is close. But I’m not sure about their adhesive patches used to secure the iPad to the folio.

Same issue here. Did not see this thread until now...this has been bothering me for months. Day one purchase. Wish me luck on replacement today!

I posted my experience with the genius today in the hardware section as when I went in for my appointment today, I also reported some issues that I’ve been having with an unresponsive screen though admittedly the problem had gone away for the last few weeks. Anyway the genius in my local Apple Store did a diagnostic check on my iPad and said it was faulty and agreed that the issues with the folio should not happen. People are finding this difficult to believe on this site but the genius has ordered a replacement iPad and a replacement folio case and both will be here on Wednesday. I do not have apple care plus. I think that people have different experiences with Apple support and I’ve been lucky this time. Anyway I should be picking up my new iPad and a new folio case at the end of the week. I will let you know if it’s anything any different. I’m expecting an email confirming the replacements from Apple although the genius did say that it may be a couple days before I receive the email as it’s a bank holiday Monday in the UK

A month since I received my replacement and the same thing is happening again. Sad, that for an expensive keyboard that has such a short life. Apple needs to get its act together on this one....

Agreed, the material used for the folio & keyboard is trash. Any drop of moisture starts the wrinkling. Tri folding the folio causes rippling in the corners as well. I’ve since purchased 3rd party ones after replacing the Apple ones multiple times once the rippling starts.

Has anyone had experience of the replica folio cases from amazon etc? I saw a guy comparing this one and it looked pretty much identical to OEM. The pro also seemed secure with the magnets which would be a worry of mine with 3rd party covers, this one however seemed to have magnets in all the right places. Just wondered if anyone here has used 3rd party?

This is the comparison
