Without even being able to replicate the problem, they replaced it for me. So I say have no fears in getting a new MB, because if there is a keyboard error, they will give you a new one :)
Wow, did they do it in-store for you?

I might have it done. I hate missing certain letters since they require very strong pressure to toggle.

I'm thinking about going out to the apple store tomorrow to get a mid-rang white Macbook, but I just started reading about keyboard defects. Is this common among all the units and how bad does this problem get? Should I hold off on a Macbook because of this problem? Thanks.

I just got a new Santa Rosa 2.2GHz MacBook and it had unacceptable keyboard defects (certain keys would not register reliably, like a, g, h and delete, etc.). If the key is pressed long then it works but if you type fast, then I found it to be completely unacceptable (~10-30% of strokes on specific keys do not register). I went to the store to swap my unit and I tried the new unit they gave me in the store. It had the same keyboard problems, but with different keys (including space this time, which is a deal breaker!). This MacBook was from a different batch, so I suspect the problem is widespread (I did not see this problem on non-SR MacBooks that I tried). I have returned all the MacBooks and I am waiting till I know for sure that this issue is resolved. This is disappointing; I really need my MacBook now and I'm willing to live with a few glitches, but this one made me pull my hair out repeatedly and was just too much.

I would not recommend that you get a SR MacBook right away unless you know that you can return it (i.e. get a standard config that you can return if not happy).

Both my return key and caps lock key do not register key strikes when hit from the bottom corners.

I'm considering returning because this.

I have the same problem with my 2.2Ghz Macbook. I just came from the Genius bar and i was told that it was happening because i installed third-party RAM. I was told to re-install the original RAM and see if it happens. Anyone heard that before? Can third-party RAM really cause the keyboard to stop working?

im having the exact same problem over here with my keyboard too, except im on a SR MBP! Whats the deal, is it a software issue? I never had this problem before leopard but it hardly seems like an OS could screw up the physical keyboard...

Wow. I'm having it too with my roughly 2 month old MBP. Funny thing is, when it happens, if I wait for about 3-5 minutes, it comes back. Super weird...

Oh, and it never was a problem with m before leopard either, but I'm starting to think that's coincidental

That's total baloney. It's really easy to check though. Put stock RAM in (or have them put some in while you're at the genius bar, and see if it happens. I'd bet serious bucks it will still happen. My computer is completely stock model, and it has the problem...

I put the original RAM in last night and i did see the problem once this morning. I have a case# from Applecare, I'm going to try calling them again. BTW, The Leopard update did not solve this problem.

I have a 3 month old macbook 2.14GHz white here. Everything was wroking great, but after I upgraded to leopard the keyboard will freeze up every couple of minutes or so. This was only a problem after I upgraded to leopard. Really sucks. I am about to install 10.5.1 and hope that fixes the problem. It is a bug in leopard. I am shocked that more people on here (keys just froze lol) aren't having this problem. Trust me it is a bug in Leopard. I just hope this update fixes it. crosses fingers.

Fark, just had this happen to me, my brightness adjust keys up top all of a sudden stopped working and then I got the swirling beach ball of doom. Could this be a leopord issues? My brightness buttons had been working fine until just a few minutes ago.

Edit: OK Husband pulled it up and it was an Airport error that caused my dashboard keys to lock up. So it may not be the same thing.
