I got my wireless keyboard with my iMac and I use the number keypad alot. I expected for it to be a real pain but I was pleasently surprised it was not as bad as I thought.

However, I am going to get a full keyboard as I use the number keypad too much.

Does anyone have a full keyboard, if so is it longer than the 24" iMac?

24" iMac & Full Size Keyboard

Hi there,

I have a 24" iMac (Aluminium) and I use the large keyboard and I can tell you (or confirm) that the keyboard fits under the iMac and does NOT stick out at all. Infact there is around 20cm of a gap with a little gap on the other side (or around 1 iPhone for those who that is more familiar). It DOES also fit the keyboard and a Mighty mouse under the mac with no sticking out.

P.S I have attached a picture of the configuration!

Thanks
Faffoo

Thanks fafoo, I should be getting my keyboard tomorrow

I'll be happier with the full keyboard :) glad it fits underneath iMac without sticking out

trade?!

So is there anyone out there that would rather have the new keyboard without the num pad that already had the other version with the keypad?!

I'm disappointed that I just spent this money on a brand new (sweet) imac and my keyboard lacks a num pad :\

Anyone want to trade?! :D

I have both full wired and wireless keyboard now, thanks to Apple ;)

I absolutely hate the USB cable running from the keyboard and the more I use the wireless keyboard the more I like it

I did not miss the number pad, but I did miss the page up and down keys and the delete key.

It feels like a cramped laptop keyboard when there's no need for it.

One of the big reasons I can't stand most laptops is because they lack the numeric pad. It's not that I NEED it but it sure comes in handy.

So aside from the fact that I find the long KB FAR more fucntional I like the look better as well. Something just doesn't seam right when you have that tiny keyboard sitting in front of a 2" screen. Smaller isn't always better for electronics.

The real problem is this:

I want the bluetooth keyboard. I want the full keyboard. Not possible, I need to choose between both. What the hell was Apple thinking. Just release 4 versions... Small one, Full one, wired or wireless.

Problem solved.

But oh noes... Steve job would never do that, he think it's more fun to mess around and make people pay extra for... nothing?

I have the keyboard with number pad and love it. Would not want to part with it. I use it all the time.

So has anyone that has recently purchased the new imac with the lame (no numpad) keyboard tried seeing if apple would switch it out? I bought mine refurbished so I didn't have a choice in the matter but apparently if you buy it new you can choose between the keyboard w/ or w/o num pad...

Stupidest decision made by Apple in a long time. All our customers now need to wait a week for their iMac because when given the choice they want the full keyboard.

We can't do an in-store swap so it needs to be CTO'd.

Sounds like they all still bought macs though; can't be that stupid.

I think most people really overestimate their use of the numpad. It seems more like a kneejerk phobia of losing perceived functionality- I bet there were similar complaints about the original iMacs losing the old proprietary keyboard/mouse connections in favor of USB, and it's not like that ever became a standard or anything. (someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the G3 iMacs didn't come with extended keyboards either, right?)
