Alot of people looking too far into things again,
Its quite possibly the light sensor found on iPod touches and iPhones, you know the one you can only see in really good or bad light or from a certian angle,

Hence only being able to see it from some angles

If the 3G model has geo-location and tagging for photos they would need to do so.

But again, all the FCC is testing is whether or not the device meets their standards in terms of communications hardware (interference, etc). I don't think they concern themselves with things like geo-tagging. I would love to see some information regarding what they do test (I googled and the initial results didn't look promising, plus I am at work.)

its just a fingerprint smudge...I guess all the other gray dots are multiple cameras for constructing a 3D image right?

Uh oh, more things pointing towards an iPad camera? I'm kind of becoming a believer now? I mean, not really, but it is odd.
