They have lots of A&W restaurants in western Canada, I don't know about the east though -- I recall them closing down a lot in Ontario. KFC was at one time owned by Scotts Foods but who knows now.. I think the owners of KFC/Pizza Hut brand here are called Prism or something..

Very enlightening TEG. Doesn't Unilever supply sanitation products chiefly?

No it doesn't. Every vegetarian I've ever known looks like a walking corpse and dies way too young.

They make foods, beverages, cleaning agents and personal care products. ...But by far their best product is BestFoods (a.k.a. Hellman's) Mayonnaise. :D

Unilever make myriad things, from food to sanitation products. Until reciently, they made everything Nabisco outside of the US (Hence why it is Mr. Christie in Canada).

Yes, in Canada, KFC, Long John Silver, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell are franchized by Prizim (Actually doing business with Yum! like most franchisees), there are some independed versions of these stores in Canada, who deal with Yum! directly.

well i did it.

or, kind of

being a vegetarian, i got all the ingredients and made my own version of the kfc bowl last night! and it was freaking tasty!

used morningstar farms chicken tenders, cheapass brown gravy with no meat products, made the mashed potatoes from scratch, and used some corn and peas.. melted some shredded cheddar on top. topped it with the bonus touch of cornbread.

mmmmmm sooooo good

only mistake was not making enough!

i made my own bowl like, a month ago.

got some mashed taters

chicken fingers

corn

cheese

all in a bowl!

it is good, but id rather do it myself and know its not 100% lard.

They sound interesting, but KFC doesn't do chicken right--Popeyes does. Bojangles is good, too and the chicken strips at Checkers/Rallys are equally good.

Lately, everything that comes out of a YUM restaurant has been making me sick for some reason, so I suspect these Famous Bowls won't be much different.

Can't imagine the Krispy Kreme doughnut burger, either, and I missed a Pastrami Burger when I was at Carl's Jr.

Choose life! It's better than The Sims. ;) (Isn't that a life choice?)

I'm assuming your semi-vegetarian? :)

I actually am trying to phase red meats out of my diet entirely.

In the US (and Europe & SE Asia), A&W is owned by Yum!, formerly part of PepsiCo (Hense why at 99% of the locations, they sell Pepsi). In Canada, A&W is owned by Unilever.

The PepsiCo thing is odd, since Pepsi never owned A&W Root Beer, it is owned by Cadburry Schwepps, which also Ownes Dr. Pepper and 7UP in the US (Pepsi owns 7UP in the rest of the world, save for the British Isles). This wasn't a problem when Pepsi and Dr. Pepper/7up were on good terms, but since Pepsi started making Serria Mist, a large number of A&W stores in the US have had to close or change brands, because CS has limited the ammount of A&W it will sell to Pepsi for the stores.

/end rant

Oh dear Lord, please don't let the A&W 30 minutes form here close! I try to stay away from fast food as much as possible, but JEEBUS that's some good root beer!

It's served up in a frosted mug, on draft. Amazing. Enough sugar to kill an elephant, but 100% worth every gram.
