I've noticed other people baby the Macbook Pro more as well. I'm sure if you treated the MBP like you did your Dell - even if we aren't comparing Apples to Apples with a Latitude or Precision - it'll fall apart far quicker.

You don't even have to do that. Using the machine normally will cause plenty of damage to the outer casing. Mine is lucky so far, one solid year and not even a dent or blemish... Oops... except for that scratch I have on the bottom.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one skunk. I really love the mechanical action of opening up the MBP. I like the light on the latch release, I like the way the lid pops open a little when you press the release, and I like the way it holds itself closed better than the macbook's magnets. If you hold a macbook vertically, with it's hinge on your desk, it will crack open a little bit, whereas the MBP stays secure. Again, this is personal preference, but I like it the way it is and I think it adds to the design, rather than detracts.

Glad we can be civil about it. Truthfully, I am kinda just wanting a new design just to see what Apple could do with it. I could have only imagined what it must have been like for Titanium PowerBook owners to see the 17" PowerBook (first one with Aluminum enclosure to my knowledge) for the first time.

Right about now, and case changes in the MBP would be welcomed in my opinion, not that anything is wrong with the current one other than being a bit dated and limited in constructions and what Apple can do with it.

I totally agree with skunk, Apple doesn't seem to make a mess of things; and every thing they come out with, people want... so i guess i too want to see what they come out with!

that aside, a user replaceable hard drive would be a great inside feature.
I preferred the iBook catch to the MBP one, as the MBP one is a little too small, so its more finger tip than press.

+1 to Skunk, change for change's sake is usually bad, unless you're Apple.
In which case, change for the sake of improvement and innovation, is good.

Bad Apple rip-off, anyone?

Maybe a bad Apple rip off, but there is a way that Apple can catch up to PC makers with their high-end desktop replacement/laptops. I would love to see what Apple could do, but there isn't a way they can do that currently with the design of the Mac Book Pro.

I would like to see a better video card for gaming, a built in reader for the memory card in my camera, and to have the laptop memory maxed out at a reasonable price.

Apple did employ some Sony case designers for the MB. Probably why they look similar (and why I hate the keyboard).

User replaceable hard drive is an important one - a pro machine should give users the option to replace the HDD. It's easy in the MB...beautifully easy. But a higher res ( 1680 x 1050 ) 15" screen would be a MAJOR bonus for me.

I agree with the HD bit but I think the screen on ALL MBP's should be no less than 1920x1080 so that full 1080p videos can be edited. Anything less is an insult.

[edit]Sorry for the double post. I forgot I had already posted.
