I'm plagued by telemarketing type robocalls several times a day. They come from all different numbers all over the country, so adding a particular number to the block list will not solve this problem. (Luckily, I never get spam texts).
Using Do Not Disturb mode is not a solution for this problem. While it silence unwanted calls from those not on my allowed list, it also silences all texts and emails and other alerts I may want to receive, even from my allowed list.
On Android, there is an app called Blacklist that allows you to block calls from everyone not on your contact list, diverting them straight to voicemail, but allowing everything else through. It's a great feature, but there's nothing similar for iphone.
I'm not a techie, so any jailbreak type solutions aren't for me.
So, could I do this to kill off unwanted calls on an iphone 6?
1) Create a silent ringtone, silent alert tone, and a no-vibrate, and use these as my default settings. This way, when unknown calls come in, I won't hear them or feel them and they will go to voicemail.
2) Go into my contacts, and then create a vibrate, alert, and ringtone for each person. (Yes, it's a hassle to do everyone, but I'd do it if need be.)
Would this solve my problem and have things set-up the way I want them, which is unknown numbers get silenced and everything else gets through?
Are there any downsides I haven't thought of? And how does one create or find silent ringtones and alerts and no vibrate anyway? (and can more than one caller have the same alert and ringtones, i.e., using 'chimes' or whatever for all of my contacts?)
