Not certain at this point. As I mentioned, I've been plagued with those sorts of calls on my landline and very rarely (last call was more than a year ago) on my cell number. I've found, however, that it nearly always pays to have an ace in the hole, should the need arise. This discussion & collected info has been most helpful and is much appreciated. :)

As I think I mentioned above, my landline is forwarded to my cell, and I suspect most of the junk calls I get come from the landline.

I wonder if there's any sort of device or setting with landlines that would kill off all these calls...

Short of reverting back to two tin cans and a length of string, I doubt it. ;)

You can't block the numbers thru the phone company because they are always changing. Stopping them is akin to playing a game of Whac-A-Mole.

Well, the way I see it, if Android can develop a simple and free app that blocks all unknown/non-contact callers and works like a charm, either landline makers, or phone companies -- or even Apple! -- should be able to figure out a way to do it too.

I've gotten an iphone 6, and I've noticed a mysterious new problem. The silent ringtone I purchased from the 'tones' store has disasppeared a couple of time and things have reverted to what they were before. The first time I chalked it up to odd glitch, and just re-downloaded/purchased it.

But now it's gone again and reverted again. What is happening, and how do I prevent this?

I ended up contacting Apple support. We did an elaborate reset and restore. We'll see if it works, or reverts again at some point...

The reset and restore didn't hold. The ringtone disappeared again. Another call to tech support revealed that the problem is a widespread one of purchased ringtones disappearing after 8.1.1. The "engineers are hard at work on a solution" though...
