There's no telling when they might update the iMac. It could be in the Fall, at the earliest. I really need to get something within the next month or two. For what I would use it for, I think I'm just going to get it now.
It's looking like they won't announce the new iMac M3 until the WWDC in June. Availabilty beyond could be anytime. Seems like fall makes sense.

Update: Bought the iMac. Blue. 16GB Ram, 1TB storage. My local store had this in stock so I just decided to get it. Got it setup and it's a beautiful computer. Very happy. I'm sure the M3 will be a huge jump in performance but for what I need this for, it's good enough for me.

Good call. I don't "need" one but am ready to upgrade from a 2018 iMac. The beach ball bounces 20-25 times before opening MS Word or Excel. Otherwise works fine. But the latency bothers me since I also have a MacBook Air M2 which is crazy nice. I could use more physical desk area in my office so moving from a 27" iMac to a a 24" would make my space more balanced. So I am interested in a new iMac but want to wait for the M3. I hope it comes out by Fall 2023. That will be about 5 years between the time I bought my 27" Intel iMac in 2018.

Loving everything about my new iMac so far. Except I hate the Magic Mouse and not a fan of the Trackpad. Ordered a Logitech MX 3 Anywhere mouse.

No surprises there, Magic Mouse and external trackpad have bad ergonomics, I'd straight up sell these right out of the box.

Once again, glad I got the iMac when I did. Was watching WWDC today and wondering if they would make any update to the iMac and nothing. Not even the M2 it seems. Looks like it will get the M3, but next year.

I'm waiting for them to update it, but I do fear that you're right. At this rate, it might not get an M4 or M5 after that, so it should be a safe purchase when the M3 one drops.

You're probably solid for close to a decade, honestly.

SO GLAD I got the iMac when I did and updated the specs to 16GB and 1TB. I was worried about the upcoming update but after yesterdays announcement, I realize I made the right decision and didn't wait it out!
