Newest 12.9’” iPad Pro, 1 TB/6 Gb model running iOS 12.1.3., no Screen Protector applied. Seems to occur on all areas of the screen.

Screen freezes. Started cropping up just in the last few weeks, seems to be getting worse. Reacts as though the screen was very dirty or my finger isn’t contacting then screen completely. Interestingly, the freeze will sometimes stop when the iPad is changed from any angle to level. Also, sometimes if allot of finger pressure is used then the freeze is gone.

Mostly, there seems to be no problem at all, then the problem happens again out of nowhere.

Is this a common or known problem that will probably be fixed with an iOS Update? Is there a Setting to increase screen sensitivity to touch? Or should I use Apple Care and get it replaced?

Is this the issue?

[doublepost=1549137351][/doublepost]Because if that is your problem, Your out of luck. I’m on my 2nd iPad Pro. The problem occurs and will not go away, I’m not sure if it is hardware or software related.

I’ve got no where to go but, getting something else.

Yes, thanks (I think). Is it widespread? I ask because if it is, given how badly it’s affecting use, then I’m actually encouraged that it is indeed a known/common problem that would, given its serious hindrance of usability, be an issue that Apple would certainly be working on a fix for. Hopefully via an iOS update.

Weird that all was well for so long then out of nowhere it started in. I was hoping an Update broke it.

I couldn’t find much on this problem either. I’m on my 2nd iPad Pro 11”.. The problem comes out of no where, it might be software related hopefully.

I’m just using it how it is anyways, even with the problem.

I made that video so hopefully Apple will see this, and help us out.

Mine developed issues on the new replacement iPad Pro 11” after about a week of usage. So getting another one will probably not help.

I agree, I can’t see replacing it with the same hardware and OS as fixing the problem, more like a continuation of it. Since both of us experienced it working perfectly initially, to me it points to a problem with the OS, probably introduced by an Update, but you would think this board would be lit up about it. (by the way, I touch typed this whole paragraph without a single hitch).

I had this occur on my 2018 12.9 a couple weeks after I got it, in December. It didn’t act frozen, things would still be playing and such, but the touchscreen wouldn’t respond like it couldn’t sense my fingers were on the screen.
It started happening regularly to me in Procreate but then I noticed it occurring in Safari, notes, even just scrolling the home screen. Tried multiple restores and even full wipes with no changes.

I was able to use the screen recording to capture it occurring while trying to draw lines on screen in notes with my finger:

https://streamable.com/kemct

Apple Store replaced it and the replacement has been perfect since. I’m hoping it was a rare issue. Next time you notice it, try drawing something in notes and see if it acts similarly.

That sounds very familiar. When I say it freezes I don’t mean like when playing videos and stuff, more like you’ve described where it seems as though the screen isn’t sensing the touch of my finger at all, sometimes not until I tilt the pad back to level then it catches on like normal.

It seems like the devices is recognizing the touches, but the IOS is not responding to them correctly at times.

I have the same issue on iPad Pro 2017 (actually two of them). Had this for a couple of months and Apple won't replace it. Here are more threads on the problem, seems it's getting worse and worse for more people:

I don't know, what should we do for Apple to respond to this issue?

I have this problem on my 2018 12.9 Pro as well. As stated, it’s a well known issue which affects 2017 and 2018 Pro’s. My Pro worked perfectly for a couple months before the problem occurred. For some strange reason the problem doesn’t manifest itself if I leave my Apple Pencil attached.

Thanks.

So it’s widespread, a serious hindrance to user ability and has been going on since 2017. Now its 2019 and with not even a hint that they are working on a fix (that I know of, and I’m sure they’re at least semi freaking out about it) that tells me it can’t be fixed without a hardware change, s**t!

Ive been having this issue for a week or so now
Thought the screen was dirty, cleaned it
Still had it, reboot safari as that’s what I was using, still not responsive

Even had issues typing this post out
Bought it November last year, wondering if I can exchange it

People have reported that exchanging did not help. The problem occurred on the replacement Pro as well. There is no fix.

Yep, turns out it’s the same scenario with mine. If I leave the Pencil attached the problem is gone. What that means I don’t know. Could be a next gen hardware fix or could be an Update software fix. If I were to use Apple Care and exchange it for a new one, I would fully expect the new one to exhibit the same problem. Doing so would help send a message to Apple but I can’t imagine they aren’t already well aware of such a serious glitch. So, with the Pecil attached it’s now working perfectly fine. I’ll just leave it attached and see if a software update cures it.

I have been an iPad user since 2011.
I have had an iPad 2 and an iPad Air. The both of these have always been flawless regarding to touch screen response.
I moved to an iPad Pro 10.5" about 15 months ago, and I now experience tons of touch problems with it. Most often, the whole screen becomes unresponsive for a little while and then it seems to go back to normal. This happens a lot when I get it out of sleep mode. It also happens when using the web browser or the "notability" sketching and annotation app. This suggests software problems but I am not sure. I have read pretty much everything about this issue (hardware defect, hardware issue due to some slight bending, software issue related to the night shift settings, issue due to the synchronization with the pencil...). Very annoying. Also disappointing Apple does not even seem to address the problem.

I also went from an old Air to a new iPad Pro. The Air had functioned near flawless for years. It is disappointing to finally replace it with a shiny new Pro only to experience problems the old tech Air never had.

Yes this is the exact issue that I have, that video is definitely a good representation - perhaps I'll use it when I make an appointment... it does generally drive me nuts and has happened since I got it in November. I haven't had that issue with any other Apple devices, though I guess my other iPP was the gen 1 so it may not have been subject to that. Phones haven't done it either, it's just so irritating - it's like it ignores it for whatever reason, because it clearly recognizes it and just skips the letters

I am still dealing with it day to day. Glad to see other people who are experience this too.

If I were you guys with AC+, I would keep returning it to Apple or get my money back. If you paid for AC+, you should use it. I would not let something like that slide.

It’s good to make a point to Apple by returning it for a new one, however, just be aware your exchanging your broken hardware for, well, broken hardware. Until there is a fix, don’t expect the problem to be gone.

Currently experiencing this issue too. Purchased in November and has only recently started happening within the last few weeks :(

AppleCare or not surely it should be replaced under warranty?

Definitely under warranty return.

Unfortunately sometimes they replace it with an iPad with the same touch problem (happened to me). So be careful! Also if it's outside warranty period they won't replace it at all (touch problem is still not officially admitted by Apple).

I’ve gone through the factory reset which seems to be working so far. Not ideal but will see how it goes.

Cancel that, spoke too soon :(
