Well, there were errors reported on the restore. When I booted it said that this was not a genuine windows install. Guess we're back to doing a full Windows install off the install disk!

I have seen that error and I believe simply rebooting Windows resolved it for me.

Something's not right. If I remove the original Bootcamp drive, and boot off the restored drive, I get that message about the drive not being a genuine Windows Drive.

Did you try rebooting into Windows again, perhaps even try a safe boot? I did get that "not genuine" once, and it resolved itself by rebooting. I have used WinClone many, many times with both Windows 7 and Windows 8 with great success to hard disks, SSDs, internal & external.

I have also found I can only have one instance of Windows on the computer at a time, but I see you removed the old disk.

You might look around in the "Windows" forum here for suggestions on dealing with that error. You may have to call Microsoft to resolve it ... or try a fresh install.

Is your original a retail, oem, download, or student version? Win7 or Win8

I have an original retail disk. Guess I'll just reinstall it. Oh well.

That's a painfully slow process, but may be your quickest solution in the end to get rid of that error. Plus, Windows always seems to run better after a fresh install ... gets rid of all the cobwebs in the registry. :eek:

Don't forget to download the drivers to a USB thumb drive from the Bootcamp Assistant first.

Good luck...

How easy is this program to use? I know almost nothing about Windows. His failing drive sea to pass the windows drive check, and boots up fine, so I'm hoping that installing a new drive in one of his open bays, and just cloning it will work. How does one set this up with this software?

It's a very easy-to-use program, but you have to follow the rules:

1. before making your 1st clone make sure you do a checkdisk;
2. make sure you're NOT running any 3rd party NTSF for Mac drivers, because the drivers will lock the drive;
3. Shrink your bootcamp partition before cloning to reduce the size of your image;
4. Expand the bootcamp partition filesystem before booting your bootcamp partition agian!

Enjoy your wincloning! ~ compute with confidence ;)

Cheers

Ok, everything seems to work fine till I go to restore. I get the message....Expanding File System Failed at the end of the restore. Any suggestions? This while restoring to a brand new 2 TB DRIVE which had all blocks zeroed.

So far so good!!! ;) How did you create the bootcamp partition?
