Last beta is going to be the same as GM?

can someone tell me if the GM is the same thing as the last beta. Or GM is better than the last beta?

What I mean is: is the GM more polished , faster, smooth, than final beta ?

The last beta is intended to be the GM and what is eventually released to the public.

While the code won't largely change from the last beta to GM, it's not a carbon copy. Beta-related stuff (logging, Feedback app, etc.) has to be removed, while code references to new hardware intended to be announced at the September event have to be added. And of course, build number will change to reflect this. If these weren't the case, the early GM leak that happened last year wouldn't have been a big deal.

Hmm, I hear this a lot, but I don't think so. There have bit a few rare cases of there needing to be a second GM, but the GM is not built as a "candidate," as something they trial as the release, ready to hear feedback on to work into another candidate if necessary. They build GM with the belief it is the final release, with very high confidence. As with any release, there is the potential for major/urgent issues which require a re-release, but that doesn't make the first one merely a release candidate.

I'm not sure Apple really have release candidates, but in the industry they're sometimes referred to as going silver. This suggests to me that Apple are not doing a release candidate with a "Golden Master"

The last beta of a X.0 build is not generally the GM. The last beta is typically the final release for X.x.x and X.x builds but not X.0 builds. The GM is usually upwards of 40-70 build points higher than the final beta. Only one time as the final beta been the GM in 10 years. I would expect a completely different build than Beta 12 for the GM on the 12th.

That’s a lot of builds.. I remember when people speculated that beta builds was usually 3-6 weeks back of the betas they seeded to developers.. Which doesn’t make sense from a feedback standpoint. Why report bugs of issues from software that’s 3 weeks old.

Because the feedback you report will go into 12.0.1, 12.0.2 and 12.1.

Good to know. While the current GP version is better than iOS 11 IMO, it still has some issue on my IPP.

Hi, and welcome to the forums

This is Macrumors, a website for mac rumors/ speculation and subsequent discussion re: said speculation.

There has been instances where iOS GMs have been revised prior to final release. The GM is very much still under scruitiny prior to final all-out wordwide commercial release.

Your post could not be more inaccurate. There have been dozens of times where the final beta has become the “GM” for X.x and X.x.x builds.

As I understand it the Golden Master is the Beta software that is deemed ready to be used as the master copy for the new iPhones that will be shipping from China.

Gold Master is nothing but fancy terminology for the final public release that goes to Devs before the public.

Obviously the new phones are going to come with the latest public release. iOS 12 public release will be 2-3 days before the new iPhones start shipping. My point is this, there is no need to get bogged down on the terminology. All that is required to know is that the GM is the final public release. It has nothing to do with betas. The GM is a different build than the final beta.

Last year the GM was leaked. Normally, the GM is released right after the keynote.

I find that the terminology IS important as it gives you a feel of the confidence Apple has with the release to use it as their template for new devices...

I recall installing it prior to the keynote using the beta program unless my memory is off.
