My late 2013 (purchased in October) just experienced this issue. The LCD panel was replaced by Apple.

This seems to still be an issue regardless of the outer glass being laminated to the LCD panel. It actually appears to be some sort of flaw with the different layers that comprise the LCD panel itself.

On the 2009-2011 models, there was a hefty amount of black tape that sealed the different layers of the LCD panel to the frame of the entire LCD unit. On this model, just like the previous ones, it still seems like there is a chance of the seal not being 100% - regardless of the new glass lamination technology. It may very well be a QC issue / design flaw and not heat related.

I suspect that somehow airflow is occurring between the LCD polarizer (first layer) and the glass substrate (second layer), resulting in these weird "wind swept" looking flaws

I think the problem of dust manifests between the lcd panel and the backlight. Depending on how thoroughly the edges of these components have been sealed together with tape will depend on whether airflow has a chance to pull air between them. Seems a rather low tech approach to an important assembly consideration in my view. An oled display would of course solve the problem as a backlight would not be required, however there is some concern about ‘burn in’ with oled so Apple may well be sitting on the fence until any potential problems are ironed out.

i had the same problem with my 2012 imac and can confirm it is dust between the lcd and backlight i took mine apart today after watching a few youtube tutorials its a fairly easy job if you take your time the new tape to put screen back on is fairly cheap off amazon aswell
Hi there, where can I find the tape for the lcd on Amazon please? Thanks!
