The maximum 16:9 resolution for all non 12” pro is very closed to 1080 anyway, so 2k or 4k options don’t really help. I try to watch 4k in 1080 24” monitor before, there would be like 0.5% different so practically almost no improvement.

my calculation was not totally correct. For example ipad 9th gen with 1440p even though not real 2k but still be around 26% more pixels than 1080. Real 2k 1440p is 77% more pixels than 1080.

It never will, just like any iPad below A12....
A12 is a big dividing line, not just in performance, this and several features (mainly introduced with IOS 15) didn't make it even to the very powerful A10X (in the 2017 iPad pro). One of the reasons if the lack of the neural engine, even though in the case of YouTube this is probably not the reason.

I think A12 is minimum for VP9 codec support.
