Thanks! Your comments were what I expected after I had the sense to look at the source code. Speaking of Web standards, I am about to dive into this book so that I can move beyond tables and "icky" html "bad code". Am I on the right path?
That book is a great css resource, but I'm not sure how well it would help you get started. If I were to teach a beginning web design class, the book I mentioned previously, would be the very first textbook. It has everything you need to know about web design, including all the basics of CSS-based design. To me it will help you a lot more than the CSS resource guide if you are just getting your feet wet in web standards and css. I've been working with css for a few years now and I just bought the second edition of the book because it's a great resource and a fun read.

2005, definitely get the book by Zeldman.

Get a good text editor for code, and learn to do it from scratch. If you never use a crutch, like a WYSIWYG editor, you'll be way better off in the long run.

You can get a nice editor for free if you look around.

Mark...

You forgot to mention that their page blasts lovely music as well! Ugh! Will they ever learn?

Hmmm... they got a contact page. May be time for a little non-interfering fun... :D

I wouldn't let this jackass get away with having it in their portfolio either. That's just wrong. I'd be contacting and demanding a cease and desist as well.

Heck, what about the local Better Business Bureau as well?

If someone doesn't stop their practices, they'll continue to do it.

I agree on the portfolio addition. I guess you could always add a note that someone else took it over and trashed it, and then link to your test site instead. Not the greatest option, but at least it would be something over nothing at all.

I actually finished the site a few months ago. I've just been waiting for client approval. Anyways, it's finally up and I just thought I'd share. :) Any thoughts are welcome, although since the site is complete, I can't really change anything about it at this point. :D

Nice web site. Clean. Simple to navigate.

Only disappointment, is that there is not more info on the instructors.

Other than that, very nice! :D

A day has passed and I have gotten over my frustration. :p I really don't want to give the guy a hard time because I really think he is just unaware of current web design trends and standards. My client contact assured me that he would resolve the issue today.

If the client's going to resolve the issue, cool. No need for opening the window and moving out onto the ledge then. ;)

Man, that's complete crap - your version was done very well. Simple, elegant, and to the point. Keep up the good work, and keep posting your sites as inspiration to the rest of us fledgling amateurs!

I have the Zeldman book, as well as Dan Cederholm's Bulletproof Web Design. I haven't made it fully through either, but it's my goal by Thanksgiving!

Anyhow, best of luck to you in resolving this matter - is there an alliance yet against online design theft? There should be!

Was joking as if I was the clown who changed it ;)
Woosh... (over my head) :p

Some of you seem to think the guy stole my design. That's not the case at all. My version was on the server and they put this guy in charge to maintain the site. He thought my code was too complicated so he redid the site using golive and screwed everything up. The funny thing is this bothers me a lot more than someone just ripping my design. When someone rips your design, at least it's a compliment. What he did was completely disrespectful and shows complete ignorance.
