So, despite my recent Thanksgiving gift of unempoyment, we are looking at a 42" flat screen TV. (luckily my significant owner is the breadwinner and I'm a starving artist loser. :D )

The TV's I have seen, the LCD's have the absolute best pictures, but seem to be on the high end price wise.

Plasmas seem to look a bit better, but not as good in my opinion.

I don't know much about DLP, but I am not really impressed--maybe the unit I looked at was meh.

Looking to find out if any of the technoligies have life issues such as backlights eventually going out after time etc... or advantage and disadvantages to any...

Gracias.

So just curious... what did you wind up getting? How do you like it?

Without the whole unemployment thing, my s.o. and I are looking to buy before Christmas. We found a Sony 55" 1080p projection set that we like, and it's $1499 with the stand, but we also like a Samsung set (it might be only 50") DLP set for $1599 w/o the stand. T.I was at one store and was (of course) extolling the virtues of DLP, and how expensive non-DLPs are when they require service because of alignment issues and such, and $300-400 for lamp replacement (I didn't think to ask him the cost of DLP and whether or not it has a lamp).

To be honest, we'd be thinking in terms of 42" LCD displays until we saw the quality/low cost of the projection sets.
