I hate benchmarks. They are useless, other than to give us a general idea of how well a phone will perform. All I am doing is posting the link to the benchmarks. I'm not saying it is going to be better than phone X, Y or Z.

I will say now though, that this will be my next phone to replace my Nexus 4. Looks like it will run very smoothly.

Benchmark scores of KRS71D/KRS78L build: http://gfxbench.com/device.jsp?benchmark=gfx27&D=Google+Nexus+5&testgroup=overall

Comparison Benchmarks between Nexus 5 and iPhone 5S. I only post this to show that these prelim benchmarks show the Nexus 5 faster in some benchmarks and slower in others. And again, this means nothing. These are 2 different pieces of hardware on 2 different Operating Systems. The scores should be taken as a sign that both devices pack a punch in performance.

Interesting Nexus 5 info:

Codename: Hammerhead
Screen Res: 1794x1080
Max CPU freq: 2.3GHZ

Hopefully it is coming to Verizon as well as AT&T and T-Mobile.

I hope so too. But, based on Verizon's blocking of the Nexus 7 (LTE) variant, I don't know if it will happen soon! Verizon was given the Block C LTE band, with the agreement that they would allow any device meeting FCC guidelines for LTE on to their network. They are delaying the Nexus 7, presumably because it won't allow Verizon crapware to be installed, claiming that it still needs more certification testing.

I hate these tactics and may just switch to T-Mobile. What I do hope is that the Nexus 5 is a true LTE "world-phone". I can take my Nexus 4 to Europe and pop a sim in and use it on their GSM networks, but no LTE. Hope this changes with the Nex5.

Magically it is running KLP in those results haha.

That was the name used internally by Google. This was to keep the Kit-Kat name code under wraps, even from those inside Google working on it.

Until Google, goes in and changes every instance of KLP to Kit-Kat within the lines of code, KLP will remain.

I don't think those are with open gl 3.0 support as that is exactly what the lg got off screen bench in Egypt with 4.2 and the note 3 with the same soc scored 68 along with reference board running snapdragon 800 with 3.0 support.

Open GL 3.0 is embedded in Android as of 4.3. Since this is running 4.4 (albeit an early, non-consumer version) it does have 3.0 support, but is it being scored properly? I don't know?

This build is obviously not final and most def not using 3.0 in its GPU drivers and kernel its down over 10fps and its scoring exactly what the same soc on another device scored with out 3.0 enabled.

The nexus devices usually out score bloated skinned romed phones so don't take any of these results as final scores

Is anyone else a little worried that this will mean the Nexus 5 price will be significantly higher?

All these specs are a great thing, so do not get me wrong. Just saying, it'd be a shame if the Nexus 5 isn't priced as competitively as before.

I still hold to my prediction:

16GB $329 / 32GB $379

But now I'm not so sure.

Ya I'm not so sure about those prices. I'm guessing you were Basing it off the $30 price increase of the Nexus 7. But the thing is, the Nexus 7's big upgrade was the screen. For the Nexus 5, the big upgrade is the screen, CPU, camera, and LTE.

Yeah. I also predicted that the highest it'd be is $349 and $399 for 16GB/32GB respectively. My theory being that they'd never price it over $400.

But not so sure anymore.

Like others have said, these upgrades are worth it. It would just lose an edge if it wasn't as low as we're all hoping.

Even at $450 it would be a $200 edge over other major flagships.

While I fear you may be right about the increase, the Nexus 7 got a rear facing camera, a RAM upgrade, a CPU or GPU upgrade also.

Here's to hoping for a small or negligible bump!

I don't think you are to far off with your prediction. Google isn't in this to make a ton of cash on hardware. That said, they don't have to deal with carriers, advertising, subsidies or 3rd party affiliates. Google may only make $100 per unit, after manufacturing costs, but it is all profit. In return, the consumer gets a great unlocked phone and people that may have bought into a two year plan for an HTC, Samsung or Apple phone are now giving money directly to Google. Good deal all around.

I would not be surprised if the Nexus 5 is priced closer to $500 this year.

Not sure with Google offering Google editions of HTC One, S4, Moto X that they would offer a phone with better specs for nearly $300 less...

Why would anyone want a Nexus when they now have Google editions of better Android phones?

Because the Nexus is used to build Android.

The google edition of phones are simply just having Android slapped on them and making sure everything works...not necessarily optimized.

This is 100% false and complete opposite of what you posted. Custom Roms like cyanogen are hacks taken from the nexus and butchered together with daily updates to work right.

The Google edition Roms are pure android with the framework made specific to the hardware.Google even left touchwiz framework deep into the gs4 ge phone for if you decide to run touchwize specific things like kies
