Android lag? Not with the new generation. My HTC one best my i5 and any speed test I have ran. Cant say the same for the s4,since I don't have one.

That being said, in regards to the op, the note 3 will be a power house.... Just like the note 2 was considered such a year ago. It will be awesome, but the average user won't see the difference. But for "geeks"... They will salivate over it and go crazy... For a few months until the next phone with a newer processor comes out.

3gb worth though ? How much multi tasking do people do? I have 9 apps open / backgrounded most times and have over 1gb free of my 2gb .. Hard to envision how in 4 months time needing an extra 1gb to my already 1gb unused ram....

I realise Touchwiz uses more memory than Sense (the S4 I had routinely used between 1.2-1.5 GB) but still an extra GB really needed at ths present juncture?

People complaining about getting more specs than they think they need, are strange to me. How could it hurt? It allows progress.

Or you prefer the Apple way - give as little head room as possible with specs. 1 GB still. Because, we don't need more, right. Apple decides when we need more, and then they will release a new iPhone so you can buy new, right.

Better have at least 4.3 if its coming out in September considering the gs4 ge has a 4.3 leak already suggesting it is about to be released.

Also 6 inches pushes it closer to tablet category, although i am sure people who are comfortable with the monster note 2 will love it. The gs4/nexus 4 frame size is the max for me though so unfortunately I will have to miss out on this.

More from a business perspective its going to cost Samsung a lot of money when perhaps they don't need to do so as it perhaps doesn't actually need 3gb.

An extra component in a device if its not needed may be good for spec whores but isn't as good for your profit margin...

If it costs $5-10 more and they expect to sell 20 million Note 3 devices, that's 100-200 million they just spent on a component that offers no extra benefit as memory that isn't being utilised is wasted.

But this is all based on the IF its not needed. Given how much more memory the S4 used routinely over the One (assumingly Touchwiz therefore needs more memory) for example, and given the Note 3 will have more specific S-apps and features over Touchwiz in the S4, then maybe they do actually think they will need 3GB......

I think it's actually possible that it pays for itself just through making the phone more attractive, I mean just from a marketing standpoint even. There are plenty of "spec whores" out there and the Note series has probably already positioned itself as one of the top choices for those buyers. An extra gig could tip (or at least be part of what tips) the decision from another phone to the Note 3.

Possible..... :)

Phablets more so than regular phones do seem more of a spec whore kind of device ...

Yup. The most manly specs + the most manly.....size :D I think Samsung has a winning combination there!

Of course I do have one myself *cough* and I will get the Note 3 too. But, jokes aside, that extra gig will be golden for multitrack recording. That's one instance where the fun simply stops where the RAM does, and it gets eaten up pretty fast too.

Samsung Said To Launch Four Versions Of The Galaxy Note III By The End Of The Year

Via TechCrunch

Talk about trying to cover bases. Korean news outlet ETNews reports that Samsung’s Galaxy Note III isn’t going to be an only child when it launches later this year — instead, it will be joined by up to three siblings that will apparently debut at the same time.

The Google translation makes it bit tricky to discern what’s going on, but ETNews claims that while the four devices will feature the same applications, processors, and hardware platforms, they’ll sport different configurations of displays, cameras, and cases in a bid to appeal to certain sorts of computers. As the report goes, the most premium of these Note IIIs will feature a flexible display and a metal chassis, components that won’t appear in the more cost-conscious variants meant for different markets. What’s more, the size of the display will vary slightly between those different versions — they’ll reportedly range between 5.68 and 5.7 inches.

At this stage though, the Note III itself is still a wild card — techies and pundits expect Samsung to officially reveal the device at the IFA trade show in Berlin like it did with the Galaxy Note II. Earlier rumors also alleged that the Note III would have a 5.9-inch display (which doesn’t jibe with this new report) — either way the device will definitely strain some pockets, but thankfully not as much as Sony’s gargantuan 6.4-inch Xperia Z Ultra. Rounding out the purported spec list is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset clocked at 2.3GHz and 3GB of RAM, which would propel the phone to the top of the heap in terms of horsepower (though LG’s Optimus G2 may be right up there with it).

As always, you should take all this with a hefty grain of salt, but this is nothing if not a well-worn strategy for Samsung — the company has made a habit of crafting what they imagine will be a popular new smartphone, and then pushing out spin-offs based on that original design meant to appeal to different niches. We saw it with the Galaxy S III and its little brother the S III Mini, and Samsung saw fit to expand the Galaxy S4 family in a big way with three curious variants revealed over the past few months. So far the Note series of phablets haven’t been subjected to Samsung’s desire to endlessly tinker, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see if that wasn’t the case for very much longer.

You can say all that, but then you can also say: "Why not?"
