My macBook pro has leaked a clear liquid overnight. It is slightly thicker than water and has a chemical scent. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Apple are yet to offer an explanation.

Run.

Oh, right, a helpful note. I would take this to Apple immediately. And complain about potential damages not only to the laptop but to your house / residence.

This is seriously concerning.

A very dangerous situation. Take care:

Can lithium ion batteries leak?

A failing Li-ion begins to hiss, bulge and leak electrolyte. The electrolyte consists of lithium salt in an organic solvent (lithium hexafluorophosphate) and is highly flammable. ..

How did it manage to leak like that? Is that the top of the lid? The picture ain’t clear at all...

I really hope that's not the battery - but I have to be suspicious of this one.

It's highly unlikely that the battery would cause that and still work (hence Apple would have known it was the battery). Also - that looks like far more liquid than a MBP battery could hold. Simply the volume of liquid looks greater than the actual capacity of the battery.

And if this was indeed from a battery, in my experience, having dealt with batteries going bad, you would see some form of crystallisation.

I don't think it's even a MacBook, whatever is on that picture has got nothing to do with a MacBook imo, as the panel does not resemble anything similar that is actually part of the MacBook.

PS: Looks like another troll

Hey there, did Apple have a response/ explanation to this?? I have an appointment on Monday at the store. Same thing happened to me with a late 2017 MacBook Pro yesterday! Came back to my desk after about 25 minutes outside the room and the Mac was sitting in a puddle of liquid which left a white stain. Looks exactly the same as in your picture in terms of the amount. I understand your image shows the desk without the Mac? I also had a problem the day before while charging. The Mac would only recharge from the left ports after a restart.

By the way I called the store and provided videos. They were helpful, but said a Macbook does not have that much liquid in any of its parts. They offered an appointment however the fact that it is still running (even on battery) ruled out any problems coming from the Mac for them. Strangest thing, no? I definately didn’t spill anything, I wasn’t even in the room ...

What was the conclusion - could you find the cause? I also have fluid coming out of my MBP 2019 keyboard. Sounds like the same stuff. Clear, slightly more viscous than water.

I see that some Macbook Pros are liquid cooled. This stuff looks a lot like propylene glycol. I'm going to guess it is coolant.

If it's not the battery, the only thing I can think of is condensation. Did it you move it from a cold to a warm room? That must have been a crazy humid room for that much water to collect so not sure on that one.

It also wouldn't surprise me if you spoke with lower tier tech help that may not be familiar with battery chemistry. Maybe try to speak with someone else.

Apple has never sold liquid cooled laptops.
I am a mechanical engineer who built electronics cooling systems once, though I am not familiar with Macs - it is a machine for work. Looks a lot like glycol, but could be something else.

Unless it is condensing something which is not water and does not evaporate, it is not condensation. Also, it is leaking from specific keys in the keyboard when the laptop is closed, not others. Which would be kind of weird for condensation.

That's not a laptop. The Power Mac G5 is a big tower desktop machine. It's also the only time Apple tried selling liquid cooled computers of any kind.
Haha, ok, you got me. I don't know a lot about Macs. Makes whatever fluid it js leaking a bit more worrying, though.

Why are you even commenting on this topic when you don't even know that there has never been a water cooled Mac laptop?

Because, as I mentioned in my first message, I have the same problem. There is fluid coming out of my laptop. Not in the same quantity all at once at the moment, but steadily leaking for the past 5 days:
