LOL I like how everyone is suggesting the use of ice. The words MacBook Pro and ice have bad idea written all over it.

Seriously. I can't imagine putting anything liquid based around it to keep it cool. It just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Kind of reminds me of the article on digg a few days ago about a girl who hides her laptop in the oven so that it does not get stolen. Then her boyfriend proceeds to bake the laptop on accident... Duh

haha oops

Is your car small enough to drive into your workplace?

Once your car is near your desk ask your boss to kick down the thermostat to an icy 64F. Keep your laptop in your car worry free.

This is a picture of my car in the office. It's also handy when I have to go to the bathroom quick!

This is the most awesome suggestion ever. I especially like how Kermit is driving the car..hahaha.

Seriously. For all these hairbrained schemes, you could purchase a portable safe that fits the Macbook Pro and chain that to a pipe or something really heavy at work. There are some pretty good laptop locks on kensington.com. They are made from some crazy tough steel. You could get one of those crazy carbon steel cable locks then chain that to something rediculously heavy. And if they want to take it, they'll have to drag the huge table, (etc.) away.

The best, and only practical idea I've seen so far is putting the mbp into a thermal bag, another idea would be a cooler without the ice. That would protect it, against the heat, its lined with a aluminum foil of sorts, that reflects the heat. I left my ipod mini in the glove box, over the coarse of a summer, and that cooked the battery. It's still holds a charge, but only for an hour. I've left my mbp in my hot car once, didn't hurt it.

I always try to avoid keeping electronic stuff in my car when I am not in it. But when I have to (such as my digital music player), I leave it in a case, under the seat, and just open the front windows about 1" to reduce the greenhouse effect.

That seems to keep the temperature of the car in equilibrium with the outside temperature.

Maybe you can zip up your MBP in a case and slide it under the seat, and open the windows by 1" just so that air can flow through. You should only consider this if you have run out of options to store your notebook at your workplace.

it seems kind of ridiculous, but get a big cooler. Put just a little bit of ice, you dont want to freeze the thing, and put some sort of divider to where you MBP wont get wet.

The cooler idea is a fine one--sans ice.

You don't need ice.

By putting it in an empty cooler you ensure it's not in the direct sunlight and the cooler is insulated so it will keep temperatures at or around room temperature. No ice needed.

If you absolutely must leave your MacBook Pro in your car, I highly suggest surrounding your car with chains, locks, and barbed wire. Maybe some guard dogs that would snarl and drool on any passerby too. But, then again, I've practically superglued my MacBook to me...

Leave a Frenchman outside your car, nobody will go near it.

I guess now, I have to ask:

How about during the winter months? I'm getting my Macbook in January, and want to spend a few hours sometimes after work doing some composing and audio editing, so I don't have the noise and distraction of being at home. I work at Subway, so we don't have a "manager's office," to lock it in, and the lockers are too small. During the winter, would it be safe in, like, a carrying case underneath the seat? Or would the ~cold~ damage it?

Nah, the cold wouldn't damage it (unless, you live in Rapture, or the Poles, in which case...move :p).

In your case, I'd be more worried about someone stealing it or trying to break into the car.

By the way, Cyanide takes good care of rowdy people.

That doesn't really worry me too much here. Plus, I have a van with many nice stealthy places I can hide it.

I live in Michigan, which is a very unpredictable place, weather-wise, so, I guess I won't have to worry too much until summer kicks in. Or I may decide not to take it in at all.

Take care of your baby. Do NOT put it in your car. Do NOT put it in a cooler. The best solution is to do what someone had mentioned, and that is to leave it in your manager's office. Otherwise, drop it off at home first prior to going to work if possible.

People leave babies in the car and look what happens. Take care of your baby. And people never put babies in a cooler...at least not normal people.

lol i had completely forgotten that time i decided to put my 8 year old sister ( at the time) in teh freezer,,, and yeah she got stuck for a coupel seconds i wa ssuch an ass to her...
