So, I restored back to the release of 11.1.

I left the beta program, both on the MBP and I unenrolled on the Apple website.

I can not make the update notification for the 11.2 beta to go away...

Any ideas?

I'm on the public build of 11.1 from Apple. I installed it from the app store itself.

For me, on my M1 MBP, the palm rejection is horrid. It's in .1 as well.

If I'm typing a long text or working in a document that is on screen with something else, it randomly clicks away do to palm rejection. I believe it is tied into the sensitivity level they preset for tap to click (which I use).

Only shows up when typing something long enough that you can see it.

I don't feel its a hardware issue, since 11.0.1 didn't exhibit this problem.

However, I'm not even trying to restore that, even though I did download the IPSW for it.

I do IT and it's mostly Windows. I've always used a MBP due to the iMessage integration and trackpad. I'm comfy doing things on an Intel one (blowing away partitions, reinstalling, etc..). It's way different on M1, especially if you don't have another Mac in the home to unbrick it. It took me over two hours to make this device work again.

It's more iPad than MB in the way it is managed.

Thanks. I don't think the unenroll procedures are working.
I wasn't actually enrolled in the Beta scheme but I too had this problem (for another reason).
I can tell you what I did but you may not like it :)
First I tried to re-install using the "re-install macOS" option in the recovery environment but that only offered me Big Sur Beta. This was on a brand new, out of the box M1 MBP. You could try that first but I suspect you'll find it offers the Beta.
I didn't want that so to cut a long story short I downloaded 11.1 from the App store and made a USB installer from it (after 2 failed downloads) and re-installed 11.1 from that using the second procedure in the link below (from "Or follow these steps").
That completely solved my problems with Beta seeds.

Mine said beta too, when I started the process. I'd imagine it may still say that if I boot to recovery.

I am indeed on the release, as I double clicked to see my build number after I went through all of that.

It's not hurting anything, I'm just a bit OCD about badges. I may just turn that off until 11.2 comes out.

I do worry about the trackpad. Apple actually fixed one trackpad issue for me that was introduced in Big Sur's Beta, which was on my 16" Intel. When using multiple desktops, if you were in a browser and tried to three finger swipe to another desktop, it read that as two fingers and would take the browser back instead.

It was the first time they got back with me in a beta for more information and then followed up when the build came out that fixed it to make sure it was fine.

They have the best trackpads in the game. It scares me that they are introducing problems to them.

As a sidenote... You didn't run into the account creation bug when you used the USB? Every time I restored from the recovery, my M1 would hang at account creation and you could never get past it or login. It would even think the iCloud password was wrong (this is well documented on the web).

Ultimately, I took a TM backup from my old 16" and used it to 'migrate' my user account. That is the only thing that got me back into the system.

I did terminal commands, resets of passwords, but every single install after a format resulted in the inability to fully create a user account.

If you leave it until 11.2 comes out you'll then get notified about updates for Beta 3 :)
The important bits of the re-install is to sign out of icloud first, do the resetpassword and erase mac through the recovery environment (not with disk utility) then repeat those two steps again.
Then the re-install from the USB will work and so will the account creation.
Or it did for me.
I think somehow the Apple ID gets somehow tagged that you're on the Beta. I know it shouldn't but I think that's how it happens.

I didn't see an option to erase the disk outside of disk utility... Where did I miss it? I may give this a try.

In that link.
It's the new way to erase M1 Macs (and it's a bit hidden) :)
I be quacked...

I wish I had found that in all my searching last night. Thank you so much for that link. Tons of options in that.

I've made a USB installer, almost done with a fresh TM backup.

My only wish now is that I could still download 11.0.1... I can only find an ipsw on that one and I need a second Mac to use Configuator 2 to use it.

Thanks a ton!

Quacksville calling! :D
You're welcome.
I wouldn't bother with 11.0.1 as I think the main change was to the firmware to enable recovery assistant to work properly, as previously it didn't, on 11.0
It was issued as an emergency measure a week after 11.0 iirc because people were making a mess of their machines by trying to do a fresh install of 11.0

I'd suggest maybe only moving your files and settings over (if that) from your TM backup with either the set up assistant in the new install or later with the migration assistant.
I would imagine that if you actually do a restore from TM you could move back some settings for the Beta seed.
Though that's just a guess.
Good luck :)

FYI,

After I erase the Mac, my model never allowed me to boot from my USB installer again (I could boot to it prior).

The terminal commands in that Apple article failed for me too.

Maybe this is because I had 11.2 for a time?

I am reinstalling via the console and will use my TM backup to bring my stuff back.

The funny thing is prior to erasing, I could boot to that USB fine.

Any thoughts there?

Ooh! No, I had 11.2 first time too.
Did you resetpassword and erase mac twice?
Did you sign out of iCloud first?

Did the USB installer not appear in the boot options or did it just fail to start?
Did you create it using createinstallmedia?

No, I did not erase twice.

Do you know what that does?

The installer wouldn't show up in startup disk or boot options.

I did create it via terminal and tested it before the process to make sure it booted (it did).

Is that second erase something special?

To be fair, I don't know, as it didn't seem to do too much second time, but that page suggests you do it twice - so I did.
It's a bit odd.
Apple Support engineers told me to sign out of Apple ID. That seems to be important.

I may try again or just live with the red 1. LOL.

I'm way more comfy working in here, because I know I can get back.

I really wanted to restore via terminal, but that command in the article gives write errors and downloads nothing.

2 things spring to mind.
When the USB doesn't show up in the boot options have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in again?
To see if it appears.

Secondly, with the terminal commands I'd try running each command on their own and see whether each works or not.
Also if the commands with 'xxx xxx' messages don't work try "xxx xxx"

Yes.

I got it to boot this time.

Erasing the Mac twice seemed to be key. Like you, I'm unsure why.

I am installing Big Sur 11.1 via a USB I created from the app store download (Using the terminal for both download and creation).

From there, I am going to try to create a NEW user account instead of using my backup and see if I run into the problems I had last night.

Will come back here and update.

Wonderful!
I ended up doing an absolutely clean install myself. Took no chances :)
Just a bit of extra work setting it up. Most of what I want will come back through the Apple ID sign in.
Good luck!

I'm in.

I still didn't do the iCloud sign out.

The erase twice seems to be the key for whatever.

I have a fresh, 11.1 release with no beta flags.

I'll grab Office and Jump Desktop from the app store... Install M1 Google Chrome (necessity), tweak my settings and take a fresh TM backup.

Thank you so much for working with me on this.

I'm glad to have this level of experience on M1 now. Still odd that I could have done this on an Intel Mac like a robot.

This is an iPac. lol. I don't know if I like or dislike that part. If I had a second Mac, though, this seems to be much easier.

Really glad to hear that :)
There are definitely some oddities with re-installing M1's at times but mostly they get there in the end.
Have fun!

Just as a FYI you may still have Big Sur Beta (which is likely 11.2) offered as the only re-install option in the recovery environment. I checked earlier and that's what I still have.
So keep your 11.1 USB installer safe! :)
