I made a whole host of recovery options for the M1.

USB which I printed a label for.
Time Machine from the other install.
Time Machine from this install that works.

If your M1 came at a certain time, doesn't it have a beta on it from the beginning that updates to the release out of the box? That was my understanding, but that could just be conjecture without a larger sample size. I think if I restore this with an IPSW and DFU mode that it will reset the recovery partition too.

I won't go that far, as I feel 11.2 will have a short beta cycle, since they are mainly fixing things they couldn't finish to get M1's out the door. I have also seen some report perfomance issues with 11 and 11.1 on some Intel Mac's. I no longer have one, since I sold my 16 once I decided I wanted to keep this one, so I can't test this.

Recovery options are always good :)
Not sure about some coming with Beta. I don't know.
Yes, I think DFU mode and a "revive" should update the recovery partition but I thought any major update would do that.
I do have a previous Mac with Apple Configurator 2 installed but sadly I can't physically connect it to my M1 as I don't have the right adaptors. I'll get one and try that some time.
Yes, I'm sure 11.2 won't be long and we can see what happens with that.

The most likely reason they'd be messing with trackpad code is new Mac notebook designs ?

I have until January 8 to return this MBP (16 Gig Model).

I type A LOT on this machine and it is driving me crazy. It's like using a Spectre x360 from HP in Synaptic days. This is a legit deal breaker for me. I've been using Apple laptops for over 10 years and I switched because of the trackpad.

I had hoped a clean install might help.

If they mess up trackpad operation, I might as well have a Windows laptop.

There are two reasons, well three now that M1 is here that I use a MBP.

1. Trackpad (was Best in Class).
2. iMessage
3. Battery life (even though that doesn't matter a ton to me, since I'm plugged in a lot).

Just an FYI, Apple got in touch (no pun intended) with me on the pointer/trackpad issue.

I'm glad the responded. Hopefully, I can provide them enough data to solve this.

hey! any updates? I'm on 11.0.1 and fearing to update due to the horrible palm rejection. It's just shocking since they literally took the Intel MBP 13 and still this is suffering.

That's good to hear palm rejection has room for improvement. Currently on 11.1 and can move the cursor with the whole bottom palm of hand while $500 Windows laptop can reject lightest touch of just meaty part of thumb palm or pinky palm.

Yes, in the 11.2 last two releases, it is fixed.

If I were you, I'd just wait for 11.2 and skip 11.1

I can't stand tap to click, so no loss for me. I find it endlessly frustrating.
I use tap to click when I’m using an external keyboard and trackpad. The Magic Trackpad isn’t as good as the built-in one on the MBA and tap to click is horrible when using the MBA keyboard.

I have a services Automator script that changes the mode from the services menu available in every application.

Hi all.

Is there any update on this??

I have the option to "upgrade" from a Intel MBP to an M1 model (identical otherwise), so I'm trying out the M1 before deciding.

Unfortunately this problem is making me dread typing on the MBP, which was one of the things I loved the most about it. And as a coder I'll be doing lots of typing...

I'm on 11.5.1 and it's still clearly worse than the Intel one.
