Leo confirms what we already knew

or are they going to come out with something totally different, maybe a full computer the size of an apple tv?
It very well could be though... so many rumors flying around about updated macbooks before mid-november... the question was whether or not it would be SR. Many people here, including myself, are waiting in anticipation of an update no later than Nov 6th.
Out of curiosity, why is November 6th such a big deal? Will the world end? Will the sky fall? Will the money burn a hole right through your pocket?
I honestly think that the 13th or 14th are the two most likely dates for an update, so I suggest you hold out at least until then.

well, this is what multimedia said abt his idea of a nov 6 MB release date:
We know the Mac Pro is November 13 if not January 15. We know next week is Leopard-Is-Coming Week. We know October 30 is Beggers Night or Halloween Eve. We know November 20 is Thanksgiving & Black Friday Eve.
So that only leaves Tuesday November 6 if not next Tuesday. It's a logical deduction not a prediction. I certainly could be wrong. Apple is certainly up for surprises any chance it can make some.

I think it has to be no later than the 6th. If Apple is going to release an update, they're going to want it out for the Thanksgiving shopping frenzy. They're probably going to get a lot of foor traffic through their stores, and what would better grab people's attention than a $999 Aluminum MB? But all speculation aside, it seems logical to me to say that they wouldn't want to release it too close to black Friday. I'd think they'd want about 2 weeks of cushion of advertise changes, if they make larger ones than just a processor speed bump. I dunno... I'm just speculating because it gives me something to do until it really does come out, but who knows, we'll see when they finally release it.

But still...if they do a new release within 14 days of the Leopard release, how many people will be using the Price Protection Plan to trade in the MBs they just purchased because of Leopard to get new ones? I am definitely not very educated on this whole guessing game, but that to me seems like just an invitation for an awful lot of returns to Apple.
There's a kext called AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext in Leo. That pretty much confirms Apple will be releasing a product using GM965 - a Santa Rosa MacBook.
That's really all I'm waiting for. LED backlighting and metal case would be nice, but I can do without that.
PS: unless there are more kext's with hints at hardware to show up in Mac(book) Pro's I'd consider this a hint that new Macbooks are indeed quite close.
Very exciting indeed. I'm planning on buying a Macbook in the first few days of January whether they're updated or not (Assuming there's not a guarenteed update like a week later, in which case, I'd wait another week), and so if they were to get updated, that would just make me that much happier/more excited to get/have my beautiful new macbook Kudos.
Kudos.What is the price protection plan? I believe Apple has a 14-day return policy with a a 10% restocking fee for opened items. And also, how do you know that there was a large amount of macbook purchases on Leopard launch night?

People can't just return their system for a new one without paying 10%; so they'll have to decide if a new MB is worth another $100-150 to them.

I'm quite enjoying this little waiting game now. The MB update has to come pretty soon, because as somebody else mentioned, this kext could've easily been a part of a 10.5.1 update (which is bound to be only a month away at the most). It looks like a nice little pointer that a gleaming new SR MacBook will be on my doorstep sooner than I anticipated.
I can dream, can't I?

I certainly don't question Multimedia's deductions (he has more experience than most of us put together). However, I was questioning why Farani wrote "No later than November 6th..." because logically, one would want to wait until at least around Thanksgiving.
does apple usually have a sale on that friday during Thanksgiving weekend? and if so, does it include ipods (touches) and what might the discount look like.

It's usually the iMac and MacBook that see $100 discounts along with a wide array of Mac and iPod accessories.
Is this normally the weekend right after black friday?
If that's the case, maybe Apple will sit on the older MB's and discount them $100 and try to get rid of the old MB's before they intro the new ones?
