The question should be would you rather have touch ID or the extra screen space? I take the screen every time. Also, touch ID is still available on the current iPhone line. The iPhone X is meant to be the future of the iPhone. It's not supposed to have the same features as the old ones. Whoever voted 50% or less is a troll or an idiot that doesn't know how to use a phone because FaceID works most of the time. I was brushing my teeth and it still unlocked for me. Only thing I've noticed it doesn't like is my Wayfarer sunglasses which makes sense because they are large and cover a lot of my face. I was using my GF's iPhone 5s yesterday and I actually forgot I had to click to unlock the screen because FaceID is so seamless. Like many other people have said most of the time it feels like you're not even unlocking your phone because it happens so fast.

Better than TouchID in my opinion. Don’t always have a dry/free right hand thumb available.

Using my iPad makes me appreciate FaceID more.

Mine works all the time. Can’t really remember the last time I had a fail.

In fact I’m so use to now just swiping up and getting in that I don’t even notice the phone recognizing my face.

It’s all just one motion.

I really dig on how it works with second step authentication too - for example, DropBox. Yesterday I had DrB open, but the phone locked, I brought it up, and as it woke I slide up and I got FID'ed from the main device auth ... THEN FID'ed from the 2nd auth at DropBox and in effectively a single step was sitting at my document.

It’s actually been annoying me a lot lately.

I wear glasses full time and tend to check my phone during the night if I get a phone call or text message. If my face is completely relaxed, it might recognise it on the second go. But most of the time is just doesn’t happen. I’ve been having to enter my passcode more and more.

During the day it’s fine, but it really does have strict guidelines to get it to work from the get go.

Saying that, I know a majority are having a seamless time with it so this is just my experience.

Edit: I should mention my glasses are usually off when checking it during the night and the screens brightness makes me automatically frown and that face pretty much always gets rejected at least once.

It has been annoying me so much recently, I considered what it would take to return it and get the 8. I enter my PIN probably 10 times a day now, I only entered it for upgrades before.

I don't have an iPhone X. But the family came over the last few days and most of them had iPhone Xs. I noticed a lot of password typing after Face ID had failed. Interesting to see from a third person view.

did this yesterday. Returned my iPhone X at the Apple Store and bought a iPhone 8 (64Gb storage) at a reseller for about €475 less then a iPhone X (64Gb storage).

FaceID, for me personally, is way less convienent the TouchID. TouchID is still King for unlocking the device .
I had my iPhone X for over 4 weeks, did the FaceID set up 3 times.

Also, the screen of the iPhone 8 is perfectly fine, or let's say it this way: the display of the X is not worth the extra € 475 over the iPhone 8.

You can get some really good deals already for the iPhone 8 (Plus) at several resellers.

Either something was wrong with your phone, or you kept setting it back by setting up FaceID again and again. FaceID isn’t just one scan of your face. Every time you have to enter your passcode FaceID adds your face at that moment to its existing data about your face. Since I set up my FaceID while wearing glasses, it didn’t recognize me when my glasses were off. I entered my passcode a couple of times when I wasn’t wearing glasses, and now FaceID recognizes me whether I’m wearing them or not. I find it more convenient than TouchID... especially since TouchID never worked with my left thumb... only with my right. I go back and forth between an iPad Pro with TouchID and my X with FaceID. Neither is 100%, I’d rather have a FaceID on both devices. It’s just more seamless.

The iPhone 8 is indeed a great smartphone (my mother has the Plus), but the X is worth it to me just for the dual cameras in a smaller iPhone.
