Seattle Wa.
I have a 15 inch 2.16 Ghz macbook pro, one of the very first. Serial number W8607, it idles at 150 to 160 degrees fahrenheit. Under full load it averages about 180 to 185 degrees fahrenheit, but I have seen it go up to 190.4 a few times. That's the highest it's ever gone.
Let's see some more numbers in here, can anyone beat my 190.4 degrees?

So what temperature is that to us in the real world (aka Celsius)?

I have a 15" 2.0Ghz, stock model. Idles around 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit) after about an hour of normal usage. Slightly warm to the touch, except above the keyboard (but really, how often do you ever touch that?). Perhaps I'm just one of the lucky ones to get a cool MBP :) Serial number starts with W861 btw.

Wow, that's an awesome idle temperature (assuming that you're not sitting in a refrigerator) .. heh heh

Can you give one more number on your serial number? W86 is where it was manufacturered, and the two digits after that are the week.

Mine's a W8614 and it idles in the low 60's.

My friend's 2Ghz MPB doesn't get that hot, I would say it's about the same temperature as my mom's powerbook.

I dunno how accurate this sensor is...after having my machine in sleep mode for a few hours, and it near an open window, I turned on the machine, and for the first 5 minutes it climbed from 0C to about 20C while idle...

I can tell you that the room was not 0C...I wouldn't have been sitting in it otherwise. 18C, yes, but not 0.

Whoops, forgot the last number! It's a W8610, so a slightly older one than yours. I've just woken it from sleep, using it for web surfing and mail this morning, around 25-30 atm, though it's slowly climbing. Mine doesn't seem to have the whine either :) The room I mainly use it in is fairly cool compared to the rest of the house, though still probably around 15. It's going into winter here in New Zealand, so I expect I'll be glad of a warm laptop anyway :p

I was being sarcastic, sort of. The maximum I've seen my MBP hit is 83c and the case felt hot enough to catch paper on fire, so I can't really imagine 97c, much less 100c.  ;)
