What is the basic configurations of upcoming iPad Air 5?

The fact that Apple went through the trouble of turning them off precisely show that they are indeed a pro only feature and one that has not tricked down to any other iPad since the very first pro (and I bet this will stay this way for the foreseeable future...)
Nonsense. The extra set of speaker holes allows sound to escape no matter how you hold the iPad. There is no actual speaker for two of them.

Nonsense? Did you even read? It wasn't me who said that there were 4 speakers in the first place. Mine was a reply to the fact that sniper said that the speakers were disabled. I didn't know if that was true or not (which has no importance in this context), what I said is (if that's true) the fact that Apple went through the trouble of turning them off precisely show that they are indeed a pro only feature. Regardless, quad speakers is and will very likely remain a pro only feature despite all the wishful thinking of potential air 5 buyers

I guess Air 5 will get 128 to 512 gigs now that the 9th gen has got the same variants as Air 4. But for me A15, Center Stage and Flash are the most obvious upgrades

I would also like to see the 6GB RAM, Thunderbolt, 600 nits and upgraded mics and speakers

There would still be differences with the 11" Pro:
- Face ID and back camera system
- ProMotion
- 8GB + M1

That would be worth the $200 difference for those who need that (the special attractive of the Pro 'd still be ProMotion)

Hoping this is possible as this Air 5 wouldn't outperform the Pro in anything but single core performance - just as the Air 4!

This would be nice, but doubt they would put the M1 in the next Air. Also Pro-motion is not a ‘Pro’ feature anymore, as the new Galaxy Tab 8 has it as standard as well as 4 speakers which is a mid range tablet, just like the Air. The goal posts have changed now.

Doubtful, many mid range androids have had high refresh screens for awhile now, hasn’t pushed apple to put it on their standard iPhones. Plus at the current time, android tablets are barely any threat to iPads. Going to have to do a lot more to take a chunk out of the iPad space.

If they did do quad speakers, I think a lot of people would not see the need for the Pro. It’s my favorite feature by far. But as for the Air 5 getting new features, I’d say 6GB RAM and maybe 128GB base storage. However, if they do go that route, expect the next Pro to launch with 256GB of base storage.

Considering iPhones now all start at 128gb storage (besides the se) I definitely see the air getting that base storage, I can see the ram bump. I definitely don’t see it getting a screen as bright as the pros, no promotion and no quad speakers.

Rumors say new SOC, 5G, new FaceTime camera with center stage and that's it. Rumored that is, have to wait till the 8th to find out

ProMotion is not just a 120 Hz display.

If somehow they gave us quad speakers and Product Red on the Air 5 I might seriously reconsider buying my Pro. Maybe. :D

To be fair I consider the standard Galaxy Tab S8 more as an iPad Pro 11” rival at the moment (that is until the 11” gets mini LED).
It’s situated a bit between the Air and Pro

One more hour before I am closing the votings:D. Last minute rumors suggest M1 being used which make some sense but I don't see 8GB RAM ...it is too much and beyond my voting choice?

Great for pretty much any smooth surface. Only improvement would be to extend the backing paper beyond the edge so it's easier to remove.

Well there you go, the Air 5 has the full fat M1 with 8 GPU cores. Amazing value for money at the same £579 price. Pity about 64GB base storage, but I have barely used the same storage in my current air 4 or 3, so perfectly fine for me

The Air 6 is now the best for value, better than the Pros.

Makes the value of the mini 6 that much worse. Who wouldn't pay $100 more for the Air 6 over the mini 6?

It’s nice. The 64GB storage could have used a bump but I guess that would have meant a bump in the price too.

This is going to make me hope for big iPadOS changes again.

Those who prefer the smaller size and lighter weight. I expect the iPad mini has its own niche market. Also, we're still at Air 5, iirc.

Pro 11 is just as portable as the mini and I can barely feel the extra weight in hand. The Air 5 is slightly smaller than the Pro so it will close that gap even more.
