Yup. in my MacPro I had a 2nd drive dedicated to audio samples, but I'm consolidating everything in the iMac. I think it should be fine, I almost partitioned the drive into 2 1TB volumes (one for system, one for audio) but I figured I'd try this and if it's not optimal I'll move the samples back to a dedicated FW800 drive.

Why would you split the drivers in two? something related to the audio? I read somehting about that last month and I didnt get it. I use Pro Tools 8 LE for music production and I was wondering about two things. Is the i5 good enough for music apps to run without with any problems (this means I dont have to spend more for the i7) and why people are using 2 HD for audio purposes.

nice setup. +1 to apple for the ambidextrous mouse. What is the box between the iMac and the iPhone dock? Also what is the black mouse used for? all these props for mostly unseen things (black mouse, remote, controller, tardis, etc.)

The black box is my Comcast cable modem. The black mouse is my old Logitech mouse which I still have connected because I haven't decided if I want to stick with that or switch to the Magic Mouse so I'm trying them both out to compare.

Back in the old school days, it was said partitioning your drive gave better performance. These days everything's so fast it really doesn't matter from a performance standpoint, but I was considering it just to keep everything separated and organized.

I decided to just go with one 2TB volume, and I have an Audio folder in my home folder where all the samples and stuff go.

As far as the i5 being good enough for music, I have a friend who is a very prolific Drum and Bass producer and his main Audio workstation is a 24" iMac, and it runs all his outboard gear and Logic with TONS of plugins with ease so an i5 or i7 should be all good.
