Mine does not have that scratch either.Quick question. I noticed my new 5k display has s scratch on the casing on top roughly in the middle. Do all of the displays have this (production mark or is mine scratched?) Thanks in advance!

Both of mine don't have it either.Mine hasn't got that mark on it.
Oh, I already disconnected the Mac from the displays. I use the Mac for on the go so it's not normally connected to my displays. I can try the command later. Is one of the displays connected to the HDMI port? Can you connect all 4 to Thunderbolt ports? can you connect the 5Ks to the left side? Can you post the output of the following command:
This will just get a list of devices. I'll use it to figure out which devices are used for displays. Then I'll update the command to get the info for displays. Or you can changeCode:ioreg -fiw0 > ioreg_M1_Max_4_displays.txt
-fiw0
to-fliw0
to get all the info now.
Then you come back home again, plug in, to find things all over the place. Going from 'several big screens to small screen and back to several big screens' again, is still a difficult thing to make work without annoyance.
I have that on one of my monitors sometimes, very annoying!Potential bug found - When I wake up my computer the 5k display is supposed to be at full brightness but pressing dim - and then + brings it back to its actual full brightness. Does anyone else have this issue?
Less impossible than finding one with the ideal (for macOS) 220 ppi.It is impossible to find a display with 500 nits...
because https://pixensity.com/list/desktop/ (this list is missing the new LG UltraFine 4K - I guess it would be similar to the Dell P2415Q or Dell UP2414Q)Can anyone comment on how they decided on the LG ultrafine 5k vs say the 4k or an ultrawide monitor?
Ultrawides are not HiDPI. The closest would be something like the LG 34WK95U-W (5K2K). 5K1440p is just two QHD displays stuck together.Don't care about gaming, but trying to decide what to pair a new M1 Max 14"/16" laptop with with main use case for a second monitor to be supporting 2 screens for programming (one code, one browser), side-by-side excel docs, or 2 web browsers.
I'm somewhat debating if I just want to pick up like one large ultrawide to work on w/ clamshell mode on the laptop, or actually run both screens at once and get a smaller 24" 4k display to put to the side.
There’s also the MSI PS341WU that might be less expensive than the LG.That LG 95U looks good but for the $$$ I feel like I kind of want to see if Apple just releases a standalone monitor.
Yep. Additionally, 5K allows running pixel-perfect 2560×1440 HiDPI without the (slight) blurriness and performance drop associated with scaled resolutions. “4K”, if you want pixel-perfect, provides just 1920×1080 HiDPI.27 inches is bigger and you get way more pixels
In very simple terms, 5K gives you Retina equivalent of 1440p whereas 4K gives you Retina equivalent of 1080p.Can anyone comment on how they decided on the LG ultrafine 5k vs say the 4k or an ultrawide monitor?
View attachment 1881364I just got my MacBook Pro 16 Max and reading this thread got me curious. My old MacBook Air could only handle one external display. The MacBook Pro 16 max was able to handle 4 displays. One new LG 5k, one old lg 5k, and 2 4K monitors.
The 5K monitors are connected on opposite sides.
I wonder which display it chooses to charge from. Does the Mac figure out which one has the highest charging capacity and go with that one or is it the first one that is connected.
Standard 16 Max.Folks that are lucky enough to be already in possession of the new M1-Max/Pro chips! Can you comment on the efficiency of unified memory? My 16" intel (i7) machine with the AMD 5300M 4GB gfx, struggles to push my dual Ultrafine 5k setup, especially if I'm not using in clamshell mode (and thus also using the 16" built-in!). GPU memory is always full (at 99-100%), fans frequently spinning up etc for very basic workloads.
Is the Unified Memory architecture better at driving these external 5K's? Specifically, I'm wondering if the base 16 GB memory is enough in this scenario or I need 32GB? Rest of my workload is programmer-like, although there's also lots of tabs with complex web apps, business apps (like Outlook), but not a lot of virtual machines.
Looks like a good deal of memory is already used up (20GB!) before you’ve opened anything much! So I suppose I better look at that 32GB version myself - maybe spring for more if I plan on any virtualisation…Standard 16 Max.
I currently have 2 x5k monitors and a 1440p HDMI monitor attached, having my breakfast; 1 monitor is showing the Rogue invitational fullscreen on YouTube in chrome, 1 web browsing and email and the 1440p monitor is idle with VPN and Finder up.

I am still yet to hear a fan but again done nothing extensive yet on the computer.

This resonates so much with me. Good summation, and I just can't buy a 4k...but the real estate possible if I settle for ~110dpi constantly draws my attention. In very simple terms, 5K gives you Retina equivalent of 1440p whereas 4K gives you Retina equivalent of 1080p.
From the perspective of screen real estate.
I’ve always found 1080p to feel too claustrophobic! I would personally never buy a 4K monitor.
I've had mine for 5 years now, still looking as beautiful as ever. I do agree about the speaker. May I suggest Bose Soundlink Mini 2? It feels perfectly under and sounds much better.I got my LG UltraFine 5k display (27MD5KL) today. Coming from a 2017 iMac, I must say I'm very pleased with the quality of the screen. For my needs, it's sufficiently bright and crisp, and the thinner bezels are a welcome change. Perhaps the most underrated feature however is the height adjustable stand. What a godsend!
So far I haven't experienced any of the documented issues like the screen not waking to set brightness etc. but I don't know if this was just with the older discontinued models.
One thing I'm a bit disappointed with are the built-in speakers. They sound pretty hollow out of the box. I wasn't expecting amazing sound but I read somewhere that they were comparable to the iMac's speakers. They're definitely inferior. Even my 16" MBP sounds better. I probably should have gotten better speakers for the iMac anyway so this will be a nice upgrade.
Overall very happy.
After a week of use, I've discovered my monitor (model 27MD5KL) does indeed suffer from this same issue. Rather annoying.Yes I have to dim nd then brighten on wake every time. Now I want to get something else. It is impossible to find a display with 500 nits...
