I need to return my trust iMac Pro to work ... so I was hoping to replace the screen experience, which is 5K 27 inch – which I like to use at 3200 x 1800 resolution.

So I got this LG UltraFine 5K – and text looks awful at 3200x1800. Like its overly sharpened, or bad contrast. Especially noticeable on things like a slash, which are perfectly smooth on the iMac but totally jagged on the LG.

Is there any way to tweak this thing? Anyone else noticed this?

I also got a 27 Apple Studio Display, which looks a lot better, but of course very expensive. Might not have a choice.

Thanks!

Which Mac model, version of macOS and connection type are you using to drive the LG?
Can you make a screenshot of your display settings?
In case you press opt-key + "scaled" make sure you use the 3200x1800 option that does not say "low resolution".
The OS itself should be rendered at 6400x3600 (framebuffer) and scaled down to 5K.
Provided you use an adequate connection, it should look (almost) the same as on the iMac / Studio Display (sharpness wise).
Unless the LG performs some additional processing (check that the sharpness/contrast setting on it is set to the minimum for testing).

It was the CABLE!!

Just as I was about to pack it up and return it – I noticed they included a USB-C cable, NOT a Thunderbolt cable!

Once I switch to Thunderbolt – it looks amazing! Pretty much idential to the iMac Pro. I had to go back a forth a few times to make sure I weren't cuckoo.

Thanks!

DFQ?

You'd think the interface ought to be able to tell you about stuff like that.

Over here
Glad you got it sorted, as soon as I read the opening post my first reply was going to be the cable, which often is the cause.
