I got 13 per row, but that may depend on how wide you've set the UI panels on each side; I could go up to 15 by moving them. And it may depend on whether some photos are vertically oriented, and their relative size.

Whatever the number, it's more images than can be displayed on any other single display (the 5k iMac having the highest resolution display available).

Ahh .. sorry guys, i'm loosing it today! I mean how few images can you get per row?

For me, on my 2560 x 1600 i can get a minimum of 4 images per row. I'd love to be able to get two images per row, as it would really help with culling. I had heard that on 5k & LR5 the biggest you could take each image meant that you'd only get something like 7 or 8 on a row, which would make the grid unusable for me for culling. But on LR6?? Fingers crossed it's a decent number.

Apologies again for me getting mixed up, and do let me know if you can!

Can't wait to get my hands on it. I had a quick question. I wanted to buy lightroom but not sure if I should go for cc or 6? I have 5 (from sources, I now can afford to buy a legal copy) If I just buy lightroom 6, will adobe update the software like cc? I already have photoshop and don't need the bundle.

My understanding is that LR 6 will not get any future updates. The only update would be to a future LR 7. I do not know if that also applies to new camera support.

Hi, can you tell me the maximum number of images you get per row (left to right) in the Grid mode in the Survey module in LR6 with your 5k? Thanks!
I'm also running a retina iMac, so I'll answer what I get. With both side bars closed, there are 24 images at the smallest setting and four at the largest.

I've been following a discussion at Luminous Landscape, and I think that the consensus is that there's been no change in policy regarding the standalone versions. Whether the CC version gets something extra remains to be seen.

I'm very pleased with LR CC/6. I'm going to try it out on my SP3 later today. On my rMBP LR has very little lag, but LR5 was noticeably slow on it.

How did the Surface Pro 3 handle it? I wouldn't think it'd have much of an issue.

Did it get warm?

LR CC is noticeably faster on my SP3. Version 5 there was always a lag when switching images as it rendered the previews. Now navigating and working is much faster.

As for the temps, the SP3 runs warm anyways, but I did not notice any uptick in temps that were directly related. My fan kick on the SP3 when I do anything that pushes the CPU, such as videos, and various apps.

I'm using LR 6 in my mid-2011 Mac mini (Quad-core i7 2GHz/8 GB RAM) and it feels clearly snappier even though it isn't GPU-accelerated in any way (integrated Intel HD3000).

I'm very happy with the upgrade but, to be honest, I had expected more changes in the interface and development engine (it's the 2012).

You can always use DxO Optics as a plugin to basically replace the LR Develop Module. DxO will return a DNG file to the LR library.

Fan - tas - tic!!

That's one reason to stay with LR, but after seeing it be slow / glitchy (showing two dramatically different versions of the same file upon loading) i downloaded a trial of C1 ... so i'll have a play with that and perhaps move over to it.

Thanks though, it's much appreciated knowing that on 5k i can get the grid images large enough to only have four of them on a row.

Cheers :)

I don't think there's a way to resize Survey view images. If that's your goal, grid view would work better. I can only get "big" views of photos by only selecting a few at a time. You could work along the filmstrip at the bottom doing a shift-select for say four at a time and get what you want though.

One big advantage of the retina iMac IMHO is the small views; I can now sort so many more images at once because the small thumbnails are so clear.

Hi,

I am really interested in some experience with LR 6/CC with the latest 13" (not the 15"!) rMBP (i5, 8 or 16GB ram).

Is it flawless with 24MP files?

That would be my primary device for photo editing in LR (but of course mainly with external monitor)

Actually my current Windows laptop (Lenovo T530 with SSD, i5, 8GB ram) is pretty fast (surprisingly) with LR 6. Do you think that I can achieve at least the same speed with the new rMBP?

Any comment about this topic is highly appreciated!

I'm amazed\in awe actually of Lightroom CC. I have a VERY old iMac, mid 2007 24" 2.8Ghz dual core with 4GB RAM. (512mb vid card too boot, LOL). Lightroom CC runs just fine. Far better than Aperture did. Considering my library is roughly 80K images\500GB, I'm amazed at it's performance in just about all areas.

Honestly, I was looking to replace my current machine a few months ago, but I think I can hold out yet another few months, maybe even longer, to see what's in store for the newest iMacs. Heck, I may just save a few grand and this year and wait till 2016!

Seriously though, I can't believe how well Lightroom is performing overall. I was really worried when Apple dropped Aperture completely. I'm now glad they did as I'm already happier with Lightroom overall.

My late 2013 13 inch rMBP seems not getting boost from the use of GPU. It's pretty slow rendering in development module on the second 1080p monitor.

I have a touch screen monitor with my Mac and heard the new update has a "Touch Workplace" on touch recognized devices such as the Surface Pro 3. Can anyone with a touch monitor check to see if this workplace is available to them?

Try rendering 1:1 previews. Makes a big difference and worked very well for me. Details here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/k...m.html#main_Render_1_1_previews_intentionally

It does take longer when importing but I just import and walk away and do something else. Also, if you're short on disk space, the large 1:1 previews can be delated later.

One setup, don't import everything you shoot. I use the Browser in Perfect Photo Suite to view and select the images on the card that are work keeping. Those are set to LR for import. The rest are killed when I reformat the card in the camera. No point in having hundreds or thousands of mediocre shoots. Just keep the best 25% that you would want others to see.
