Keep in mind:

CC subscription = latest Lr. Ps and Mobile Lr. It does not matter if you only want 1 or two of those...you have the RTU for all 3 for as long as you pay the fee.

LR license = only the version you purchased. This is different than in previous versions such as Lr 5 where you got 5.1 to .57 updates with new features for free. No more free feature updates. And if you wait long enough the version you purchased will no longer work on the latest OS or with other apps and plugins you want to use. A purchased license may legally be forever. But the technical reality is that some day in the future the code is just too old.

That is why I moved from Lr license to CC subscription. I am glad I did. Your milage may vary.

Adobe understands that Aperture is gone so they basically have a monopoly now. Sure you can pay $299 for Capture 1, but with $10 a month from a Adobe, I'm sure they are picking up a lot of users just on price alone. And they want those users on CC.

Frankly they shouldn't even sell LR6 as a stand alone if they are not going to add features in point releases. We are accustomed to receiving these as this has always been the case with software. Adobe basically **** on their users but not being VERY clearly upon purchasing the stand alone.

It was very easy for Adobe to jump in once Apple announced they will no longer support Aperture..I deplore the tactics they used to sell stand alone LR6 knowing very well that their future business model is to go to this monthly CC model for all their products. Now we start seeing the side effects from their typical business MO. I had some bad experiences with Adobe products and services before and I am still impressed with the way Steve Jobs went after Adobe...
I gave my business to Capture 1, yes it's a learning curve which requires some extra efforts.. I am getting used to it more and more and love the way it handles RAW and color corrections.
Anyway the rationale used to make the choice is ultimately in the eye of the beholder..
This Adobe tactic might backfire .....

Perhaps. But no evidence of that from Photoshop becoming only CC and now LR being part of CC for photographers via subscription plans.

Without doubt C1P would be my second choice. I used the trial copy for a few weeks. I know some folks who moved from Nikon to Fuji and love the way C1P handles their raw images.
