oversized ''SUVs''

Don't think so.

Now ready to purchase my 2007 and I'm getting impatient with Ford! The "oversizedness" of them gives me more space than my Tahoe did. Plus, family trips are important so we need a big SUV.

ethanol actually doesn't increase gas mileage by that much, and requires fossil fuels to harvest the corn. It cuts down on certain gasolene emissions, but increases other pollutants. And it isn't that much cheaper, so you won't be saving much money.

Need a big car, not a car that sucks up every gram of petrol/gas in it's path.

There are many cars that have the same amount of space, safer, smaller engine but = power because of less weight with great range ;)

I love how this thread got so critical of SUVs. I am pretty sure he only asked for pictures (a little weird but hey). Obviously he can afford it so why keep telling them they are expensive and gas hogs? Granted it is a forum and you can post whatever you want. But really...

Used to have a Navigator, was a peice of crap (lemon). I traded it in for this.

Edit (dont want people to think I'm a dick.): I liked the Navigator while I had it, It served its purpose, and was a nice car, untill it started to fall apart.

Exactly. People on this board love to get so preachy and high and mighty about how OTHER people spend their money.

I have to say that I'm not much of a fan of SUVs either - but people shouldn't ruin this thread by attacking the OP. If you just want to rip up SUVs there are plenty of old threads on that topic laying aroiund waiting to be resurrected...

Right now I'm finishing up an archeological dig I've been doing since May, and every day I've been driving around in the university truck, an early 90's Ford F-350 crew cab monster...I have to parallel park it every morning and that ain't fun, but it does have a switch to swap between its two fuel tanks. How cool is that? :p

A friend of mine just switched from a '97 Expedition to a '02 Navigator...haven't ridden in it yet but I imagine it's the same as the big Ford.

Actually ethanol reduces the fuel mileage by a significant amount, since it has less energy per gallon than gasoline.

In general a quick measurement of the fuel economy of E85 is the highway mileage dropping to the old gasoline city mileage and the city mileage being near the old spread below that.

A Ford F150 FFV will be
Gas 14 18
E85 10 13

Dodge Durango
Gas 12 15
E85 9 11

So unless E85 cost a bit less than gasoline, it will end up costing you a bit more for fuel -- due to the need to top up more.

If you really NEED that SUV you should go a little more environment friendly with a nice Highlander Hybrid. I really don't get why most American's think that Hybrids are only about saving money at the pump. Its about something way more important, the environment.

On a more on topic note, you really thought there were going to be enough Lincoln Navigator owners to warrant a thread for that specific SUV? Why not just post in the "post a pic of your car" thread?

No you got me wrong, I said so because it pollutes...more fuel used = more pollution ;)

No objection to spending money.....spend it if you can ;)

Well we are growing from a family of 3 to 6, my wife has triplets, so, I want a 4x4, but landrover or chevy, the cost of gas is so high, we are going for a AWD dodge caravan, will set 7, burn less gas and AWD will help when I hit the grave trails for camping / fishing

You shouldn't feel bad about owning one. I'm in the same boat. I have an expedition right now, but I'm looking for a new truck. Was looking at the Escalade and the GL450. They are supposed to completely change the Navigator for 2007 from what I heard.

I'd love to see someone fit 3 car seats across in one of them battery powered milk containers.

As for gas... I don't find the mileage all that bad. If I could have a smaller practicle vehicle, I might look at it. Even minivans aren't all that much better on gas.

There is always the Freightliner Sprinter if you want a full sized people mover that will get 25 MPG.

But that is a full size van, so a bit bigger than some of the other vehicles mentioned here -- but it is also called a Mercedes Benz outside the US, or a Dodge at the Dodge dealer where it is probably more expensive.

Of course driving around a van sized Fedex/UPS vehicle isn't what some would want either. Still a decent vehicle though.

---

Of course it isn't a battery powered milk vehicle either, more like a diesel powered milk delivery van.
