It looks nice but not $449 plus tax nice. Goodness, the band along is more expensive than the 38mm and 42mm Sport watch. I just can't see myself thinking of more than one reason as to why I would pay that much for a band.

Especially considering that its lifespan is limited to 1-2 years of Gen 1.

I ordered the band after seeing all these pics. I don't think apple will change the connector until they have to. They never been about changing ports and adapters unless they have to for design reasons or progression in tech. You can easily shrink the size of the case and still have the same bands. Of course they can offer a bigger size you may want and other bands.

Look at the iPad for an example. The smart covers have been interchangeable for a long time.

I don't think we know this at all. I think it would be pretty foolish of Apple (although certainly not impossible) to arbitrarily change their band connectors for the next watch.

Oh, they will. If not because of case redesign or to make more money on new bands, they'll HAVE to do it because of problems with band release buttons getting stuck. Just give it some time, and you'll see.

Just look at the flimsical design of the latch and latch pockets:
https://developer.apple.com/watch/bands/Band-Design-Guidelines-for-Apple-Watch.pdf
think about tiny springs in there and think about water and soap sloshing there, dead skin cells, dirt and sand getting in there.

The sticky crown is just a glimpse of problems to come.

I think the digital crown will help the size stay the same for a while. Doubt that will get smaller so why make the case smaller.

Agreed. These are quality bands. Go to the mall tomorrow and try on a Movado or Tissot with a similar band. You'll pay about the same. Jewelry has a big markup. I don't see Apple changing the design for at least a few generations.

----------

You sure about that? Last 3 iPads are different...

The iPad mini hasn't changed much in 3 generations. The Air and Air 2 are virtually identical on the outside.

Yes I'm sure. The Smart Cover has been the same since the iPad Air. The cover previous to that fit the iPad 2 and 3. Only reason they changed it for the air was the thinner bezels

Sorry was thinking Smart Case, different for iPad 4, iPad Air, iPad Air 2

Last three releases, three different smart covers...

I do agree they most likely will keep same band specs for a while, at least I would hope!

It's only a matter of time until people start taking pictures of their band boxes in front of their steering wheels.*

Wow! After seeing a few of your posts, I thought. "I've seen him post negativity elsewhere". Yep, it seems you rarely, if ever, have anything positive to say around here.

Honestly, if you hate Apple products that much, why are you sticking around??

He's a troll, excessively enough to earn bans around here. Unfortunately, they have been temporary bans.

I'm a big Apple fan, former employee and owner of everything Apple usually but I have held off on the Watch. And I've been accused lately of saying too many negative things. Some people however really need to lighten up and not take people's comments too seriously.

On another note, I only wear watches with link metal bands and I like the weight of them. When I first saw the link and the pricing I was turned off by it. Then on launch day I tried it on. And I really liked the feel of it. It is a little plain and does look a bit like the Casio stretch bands. But it is very nice without a doubt. I prefer the staggered style of Tag bands. Today I tried it on again and without asking and because they were slow the guy at the store actually sized it for me whereas before they put it on without taking any links out. At first he did it tighter but I explained that I wear it a bit loose on my wrist like a bracelet. So he added a link back in. He also was nice enough to switch the strap positions on the sport and classic bands as I wear it on my right hand (I'm a lefty). I'm just having a hard time convincing myself to spend $1,050 since I know I need a sport band too for certain activities. I also am bummed because I could get the 42 SS with BSB sooner and then add the link band when and if I want to spend the rest. But the AppleCare only extends a second year to the band that originally comes with the watch. So if you want your link band covered for two years with your watch under the AC plan, you have to order the link model.

The iPad Air 2 Smart Case is not the same as the iPad Air 1 Smart Case, though.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this too- I've not seen any information about coverage of separately purchased bands! If I bought a link bracelet I'd want it covered for as long as my watch is! Fortunately, I'm in the UK, consumer law protects purchases and I'm sure if a £379 metal bracelet broke after 1 year, you'd be able to argue that it does not meet the expected life-span for that price. But, I'm not sure how this would work elsewhere
