That could be a problem... Asus rarely if ever follows reference design that the Apple drivers are designed for. Sapphire is generally a good bet. Let us know what happens with your asus card.

It's one of the first 6870 models that were available. I think (could be wrong) that many of the first wave of cards followed reference design regardless of brand until they had time to offer tweaked models. Regardless, it seems to be working fine.

Seeing as the Sapphire brand are recommended as following the reference design, would the Sapphire 6870 Vapor-X be suitable? It seems to only have hardware modifications (heatsink and fan) to make it run cooler and quieter - always a plus, plus it's slightly cheaper than the standard Sapphire 6870 on the same site.

That doesn't appear to be a reference card. See here for a handy guide that I found.

Hi just wanted to confrm I can buy any ATI 6870 and it will work in my Mac Pro running Lion ? Will I be able to use my 24inch Cinema Display which is only mini display port ?

I have an XFX RadeonHD 4870 card that was previously flashed and working thanks to Cindori and the Zeus app.

I've upgraded to Lion and replaced the Radeon card with my original Mac Pro video card for the time being because I needed Lion (I'm a developer).

I'm just looking around now to see if there is a way I could get this card fully working (my main concern is dual monitors, critical to my workflow) under Lion.

Sorry, but that isn't what I mean; I meant Mac support for unflashed stock PC cards.
