GM is not released yet.

Until then these kind of threads are useless...

This is going to seem like a really dumb question, but how would we know that the GM is not ready yet? Does the GM get released to developers before the actual release to the public?

I don't get it, because everybody has been saying that you can't upgrade to the retail release from the developer previews, but if developers get the GM release in advance, then that doesn't make sense. Surely won't we just find out that the GM is ready because it turns up in the app store for purchase?

As I say, I know this must seem like a really dumb question, but it's only the second OS X major release I have been waiting for (I started on Leopard and before that, I was on OS 9 for 8 years!)

I didn't shout in my quote, the original poster shouted.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Yeah, Apple isn't going to release anything based on NZ time, but rather Pacific Standard Time in California.

I would have to agree with another person above that since the GM isn't out yet, we still have a couple of weeks yet to go, at least.

All previous OS Xs have gone on sale here first. Sometimes retail not till 6pm, but even then the pre-orders arrived 8am on the same release day, i.e. 19 hours before they would have in PST. And iOS AppStore apps start with NZ releases, I'm sure much to the chagrin of many. Not sure if Mac AppStore is following that trend, but it wouldn't surprise me were we to get it first. I still want a Lion t-shirt though ><.

That's all well and good, but Apple no longer have to ship disc copied of OS X. All it takes is for Steve to wake up on any day of July he sees fit, and push the button that will make Lion go live in the Mac App Store. I doubt very much that Apple employees will be waking early/staying up late just to continue a retail distribution trend.

I think this is true. I mean, GM (Golden Master) is meant for going to press the DVDs.
I am registered to the developers program for almost 6 years now, and we have never received the GM. Though we could download the release version for free on launch.
For Lion this can be different. In practice Apple can develop Lion for example to 31/7 and release it on that same day. No GM needed.

Ok, lets not make a fool out of ourselves.
First, Snow Leopards "gm" was never official, and it was the last developer preview/beta version. Afaik Apple hasn't made public announcements about the GMs before.

Secondly, GM term is dating back to when they sent software to manufacturing and well, Lion isn't going to the print shop.

Finally, don't yell. It's just plain rude.

All that said, I don't think Lion will come tomorrow, but I do think it'll come before or at their earnings report in mid-july.

If the Mac AppStore works the same way the iOS one does, it pretty much will be the way.

well the GM is out today, hopefully theres no major bugs so steve can get up from his iBed, check the date on his ipad 10, reply to some emails on his iphone 15, and then sometime this week and hit the iLion button.

Wednesday @9am PST is the first rumored date.

July 19th is the second.

Let's hope Wednesday is the correct one.
