what to buy apps. here is the list of the best apps to buy
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/787750/

It is too convoluted to really get into over a forum thread where people will chatter between posts.

It is too convoluted to really get into over a forum thread where people will chatter between posts.

that why i will update my post with what you guys think are the best.

to make is easier on me please lists the apps by category and put a quick description.

example
Photo apps
CropForFree----crop photos in your photobook

Slacker - Radio
Flixster - Movie showing time
Translator - language translator
Yelp - Local business rating/review (ie. restaurant, massage, shopping)

Bump - transfer contacts/photos with another iphone by bumping both phones together

Trapster - gives warning of police hide out spots. like google map, tracks as you drive and notifies you of any upcoming hide out spot.

News
[app]Fluent News[/app] - multiple news sources, offline caching, and similarly grouped stories gathered in one place.

News
[app]Times Mobile[/app] - Times magazines own app. Offline caching as well.

Books
[app]Stanza[/app] - Best e-book reader I've tried yet (I haven't tried Kindle, as we can't get Kindle books in Japan).

Utilities
[app]Store Extender[/app] - Browse new and discounted apps, it could use a bit of work on resuming browsing. I've got to restart at the begining of the list again if I get interrupted.

Utilities
[app]Global Apps[/app] - See the top 100 in every category in every iTunes store. I've found a couple great apps in other stores that aren't popular here in Japan due to their not being easy for Japanese to use.

Top Free Apps -- Plus a Disclaimer!

My list:

1) Amazon.com - invaluable if for nothing more than to have its user generated product reviews handy while out shopping. Turn on Amazon one-click ordering, get yourself an Amazon prime account and then this app is like crack!

2) Pixelpipe - upload all of your photos and movies to whatever service you prefer, all from this one app. Supports popular destinations such as Flickr, Picasa, SmugMug, YouTube, Vimeo, Revver . . . the list goes on and on. Will even upload to multiple sites at one time. I haven't used the built-in uploading features of the iPhone or any specialized "single-site" apps since I downloaded Pixelpipe a few months back.

3) What's On - I've tried may "TV Guide" type apps over the past year or so, but none work as fluidly and are as elegant as this free app. Most are slow as molasses when downloading data, but this app really flies. To increase its speed even further, I suggest selecting your favorite channels in the guide and deleting the ones you know you will never watch.

4) Shipments - the easiest way I've found to track packages from FedEx, UPS, etc. You sign up for the service online, then whenever you get a shipping confirmation from a retailer, simply forward it to TrackMyShipments and all pertinent information will be synced with the iPhone app.

5) iDeals - find the best bargains offered online each day from popular sites like Woot!, Monoprice, DailySteals, Buy.com, etc. Sort deals by type, make in-app purchases, share deals with friends. Exclusive deals coming some.

[Full disclosure: iDeals is my app. I'm a solo developer who got into the game for fun and the challenge of trying something new. If you look at my profile, you'll see that I'm not here simply to promote my app, but rather have been a longtime reader and contributor to the iPhone forum here at MacRumors. I hope you take a few minutes to download my app, give it a spin and, if you like it, post a positive review on the app store. I got hammered with negative reviews due to a compatibility issue which arose when 3.0 came out. It took forever for Apple to get the new version up and that limbo period really killed me. Thanks.]

Very Nice Thread. Also in review if you could put if free App has ads in it.

Hate Ads.

You need to get over that then. How do you expect them to make any money? A developer has two choices (actually three, if they just give it away), they can sell the app for a price and maybe make money if enough people buy it or they can make it free and have lots of people download it and make money on the ads.

OP, I noticed you didn't put Funambol on the list. It's a life saver program if you ever need it (your HD has crashed, you didn't backup, and you need to get your contacts back).

I'm sorry I can't post any program that you suggest. Hope you understand.

The only reason i posted the other apps is because i also have them.

I'm sorry but FiredogUT can't take advice from iphone.aggie

i hope you understand.

Keep it coming. we need more free games.

remember it needs to be free.....no trials that only let you use the app for a short time or limits what you can do to make you buy the paid version.

You can add Tap Tap Revenge 2, Flickr & i.tv (tv show listings and Tivo remote).

Edit: you can also add the free version of Twitterrific and Now Playing (movie previews and showtimes) also. Kind of amazing how many good quality free apps there are.

Sorry to break it to you, but most "good" games cost a dollar or two in my experiences anyway.

Anyway some other good apps are Google Earth for traveling and The Weather Channel.

Words With Friends, free Scrabble-esque game.

WhatsApp Messenger, free sms texting between iPhone users.

Facebook, of course.

Duo, twitter and facebook status updates.

Twitterific free, or SimplyTweet free, two great free Twitter apps.

[app]Chess With Friends[/app] - online chess. Make a move and come back a few hours later to continue the game.

I think Stanza should be included in there due to the free downloadable books from The Gutenberg Project. Your call though.

Thanks for the thread and the list!

I know these topics show up somewhat frequently and it seems every time I find one or two new apps I didn't know about. Makes it all worthwhile, so thanks!

And I'll add a couple decent freebies:

WHERE: (Good, simple location based app for Gasoline, Starbucks, etc.)

Wattpad: More, free e-books.

Games
Live Poker - online texas hold em game
21 Pro - single player black jack

I know i am being biased. But my best Free productivity app has to be

VoCal - Free Edition

It is very quick way set a reminder without the fuss of typing into my iPhone so i can also do it on the move. Allows upto 3 reminders which should be enough for most people. Professionals and busy people can get the full version for unlimited future reminders.
