Orded iPad on June 5th got it June 23rd. Talked to one AT&T rep who confirmed via my IMEI number and told me I could get the unlimited plan.

I have not yet been able to get to talk to anyone at AT&T. Its nice to know there are some people who have. Tired this AM at 8 EDT and was on hold an hour, with no human response. Am on the line again now, another 30 minutes gone, convinced this is a huge waste of time. It could all be done electronically, except I think AT&T is trying to make it hard so people get discouraged and just give in to take one of the newer plans.

Just hang on! Don't let them win!
Put it on speaker phone and go about your business.
I did all my vacation packing while on hold.

Calm down and call ATT.

I dont mind calling AT&T. In fact I have called them four times now, each for well over an hour of holding time. What I do mind is horrid service, and keeping calls on hold for hours on end is bad service.

Apple makes a great product, but AT&T is sullies it.

Well, bad news folks, I'm on hold with AT&T right now. I have already talked to three people. No one has a clue and it looks like it might no longer be possible to get this unlimited plan even if you bought it through June 7. :(

I guess I will just return the 3G iPad. I was smart enough to leave it sealed in its box so I don't incur any restocking charges.

HAng in there and call 866 640-5125. Be prepared to be on hold for an hour or more. But they will put it through for you. I was on hold for almost 100 minutes this morning, but put on the speaker phone and went about my business. Finally, someone answered.

Yes, I finally got one smart AT&T person to help me and give me that number, I've been on hold for only 47 minutes, so they should pick up any moment now. ;)

I got through after 3 x calls fails on my iPhone. It took 1.5 hours on the final call.

They cancelled my 2 gig plan & signed me up for unlimited. It still doesn't show that I have unlimited via the cellular data tab...although it lists unlimited as pending.

Wait - the only reason you bought an iPad was for the unlimited data plan?

Hehe, no I need to be able to demo sites, etc. while I'm away from my MBP. So, the 3G version was a much better choice than the Wi-Fi-only version, but I had to be the first kid on the block with one. :p

So, after one hour and 30 minutes I finally got through! Upgraded me to $29.99 unlimited plan, which only took about three minutes at most. :)

Finally got through after 59 minutes. But CSR told me I would need to upgrade to 2GB plan, then wait 10 days. I am wondering how am I notified after 10 days? Noticed from a few other threads that some CSR's are upgrading to unlimited on the spot without the dreadful 10 day waiting game. What gives?

Just to update my experience from earlier today. I waited on hold for 1.5 hours and finally got "Veronica". She was very nice (as I was to her). BTW I suggest NOT taking out your frustration on the "front line" employee for bad AT&T practices. They are just working for an hourly wage, and are probably as frustrated as we are.

Anyway, she had me register for the 2MB plan in real time, then she changed it. I got three emails; 1 for the 2MB plan, 1 for the unlimited plan, and 1 (that worried me at first) saying my plan (2MB) had been cancelled.

She told me that I COULD have started the 2MB plan previously, and she could still change it. I'm not sure, but I suspect that those who are being told their is a waiting period may have established their plans before. But either way it can be done. So, if your in need of 3G Data, but have not called yet, you can establish/use it and call and change later.

Veronica told be that they are open (in Texas) from 7AM to 9PM Central time.

Of note (although I can't guarantee it) it seems that there is no "verification" going on. I thing that ANYONE that calls during this period can change to the unlimited plan if the call and say that they bought it by the 7th. I don't think AT&T has any validation system in place.

I am totally livid right now!
I ordered my iPad on May 28th and did not receive it until June 16th.
I was under the understanding that as long as you purchased your iPad before June 7th you would still be grandfathered into the unlimited data plan. Well I didn’t want to start it until I left for vacation tomorrow but I did check to see if unlimited was available when I first got it and it was. Well guess what? I just went to sign up for it and it’s GONE! The only choices I have are the stinkin’ 250MB or the 2GB!
NO UNLIMITED!
Can they do that?
Has anyone recently receiving their iPad encounter this as well?
I don’t know what to do! I need the 3g for my vacation tomorrow and I don’t know if I will have time to call ATT tomorrow before I leave!
WOE IS ME!
:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I don't think even AT&T knows what they just said to the public. HEllo,!? CAn you HEAR ME NOW!?

When I finally reached them is am they asked me for the iIME number and serial number and said they would get verification from Apple and let me know later that the "unlimited" plan was in place.

Guess it depends on which person yup reach.

Wow! Veronica just "did it". No IMEI, no serial number, no anything.

Yea, my rep asked when I received mine, but I think they will just shut it off after the volume of calls declines. :)

This is why I went wifi only and carry android on a non AT&T carrier...seriously, duck AT&T  I won't pay that company a penny...not ever.

According to an article on Business Wire, looks like a couple people filled a class action suit!

Well I was the one who started this thread back on June 21st and called to get grandfather'd in on June 22nd.
I have never heard back from ATT on the matter and tomorrow will be 3 weeks since I called.
I hope some you had better luck than I.
I don't really care anymore since what I really wanted was the unlimited for my vacation and the ability to turn it off and on but it doesn't look they are gonna budge on this so be it!
I HOPE THEY DO INDEED GET SUED!

I signed up for unlimited yesterday. Took 30min to do. You still have time as the cut off is july 15.

Here's the email apple sent me with instructions. Follow them and you should be good to go.

Dear Apple Store Customer,

Thank you for purchasing iPad Wi-Fi + 3G.

Our records indicate you ordered iPad on or before June 6th, which qualifies you for AT&T's unlimited monthly plan for 3G data.

Because the unlimited monthly plan is not currently available from the on-device activation flow, Apple and AT&T have developed a special process so you can still sign-up for the unlimited plan. If you would like to request the unlimited plan, please do the following:
1. If you have not done so, please connect your iPad Wi-Fi + 3G to iTunes and activate your device.
2. You then need to activate the $25 2GB AT&T 3G DataPro Plan for iPad via Settings > Cellular Data. This is required for AT&T to be able to add the unlimited option to your account.
3. After you have activated the $25 2GB AT&T 3G DataPro Plan for iPad, call AT&T Customer Service at 1-800-331-0500 and an AT&T Customer Service Representative will assist you in activating the Unlimited AT&T 3G Data Plan for iPad.

As part of this process, AT&T and Apple will verify if you are eligible to take advantage of this offer. If you are determined to be ineligible, AT&T reserves the right to either cancel your data service for iPad or move you to a lower priced option. You will be able to activate service again or change your plan to any currently available AT&T 3G Data Plan for iPad at any time.

Please note: If you cancel the Unlimited AT&T 3G Data Plan for iPad or the Plan is not auto-renewed in the future, you will not be able to order the Unlimited Plan again.

You must contact AT&T on or before July 15th.

Sincerely,
The Apple Store Team

Thanks but I decided I don't want to pay $30 a month just to keep it going.
What I really wanted was the ability to turn it off and on.

I went through similar hassles as the OP around the time the iPhone came out, during the 3rd week of June. My iPad arrived at the same time, and I couldn't get through at AT&T at all. Finally I did, and they told me to just sign up for the 2 GB plan for now, and they would change it manually to unlimited within the next 10 days.

I had to go to Europe immediately afterwards, for two full weeks, and when I got home, my plan was still 2 GB. So I called AT&T back, and they had it all fixed about 10 minutes later. No pain, no hassle. So I'm on the unlimited plan now, and I'm very happy.
