The time that you spent posting this thread and replying to others, could've have been spent on designing that logo. Hurry up--time is money!

Just do what all crap designers do, find something you like online and rip it off. It's just that simple.

And remember the 3 P's of the web
Piracy
Porn
Plaugurism

...speaking of websites, this guy should get the domain name panhandler.com
and branch out into FREE writing, painting, music, illustration, why confine the requests to just logo design, I think he's onto something here!

It is not unreasonable to ask for a free logo, it's probably not even all that rude.

Can't say I agree with that. No matter what motivate you put behind a request like that it shows a lack of respect for the designer or the industry as a whole. Being disrespectful is just plain rude.

Well, you're definitely getting what you paid for...

Ive just looked at the galleries on that '$25' site. There is a reason they are only $25.

I have worked for design agencies that have charged £7000 for a logo (including initial concepts) and the usual stationery.

It's like attack of the clones in here. The self righteous clones.

Anyway I'm off to start a site where I get other peoples logos and host them on the net without permission, then I'm going to preach morals to people.

Oh the irony. Aren't half of the logos on YOUR logo site lifted from another not-so-respected-and-busted-for-plagiarism-several-times website called logo works? link

Apparently you are right, people feel that it's alright to do anything with stuff from the web. Yesterday I noticed a hugh spike in the number of people downloading from my site. I following the links back and found to my surprise that these X-Men fans feel it's quite alright to download and rip apart my portfolio then repost it online. Their obsessions with this stuff is a little scary.

Then scroll down the page halfway.

I noticed a lot of stuff from the X-Men photoshoots there as well. How they get this stuff is beyond me. This is one reason I don't even talk about current projects.

A shade different than five finger discount design though, I'd have to say. These are just excited fans having a little fun, though using seriously flawed logic in the process; 'Hey, they were posted in a public place for anybody to look at. Nothing wrong with me doing the same thing so I can share them with other fans. I'm not selling them or anything.'

A mix of faulty logic and ignorance, certainly, but these aren't scavengers looking to claim the work of someone else for the sake of profit. Movie fans having some (thoughtless) fun. Not all that obsessive or scary as I see it.

I'd put my money on a combination of loose lips (What's that saying about 'once more than one person knows, it's not a secret anymore'?), an underestimation of the power of Google, and some ill advised assumptions about privacy/exclusivity/anonymity in the age of the internet. It doesn't take Indiana Jones to find the Holy Grail these days. ;-)

I know they are not being scavengers looking to claim the work. Like you said, it's thoughtless fun. I was just surprise at the amount of time they spend talking about films and posting about every single last detail. Look at the post counts these people rack up. These are more than likely the same people who call the studios to make sure they don't miss a single detail about their favorite superhero, or even tell them how the movie should be made. And they know exactly who to call. That's a tad obsessive.

That would also explain why I had a spike too. My counter (invisible) went up by a hundred unique visitors (not just hits) soon after posting here. But then again its what I made mine for - generating ideas (not theiving).

ummm is it any worse than this forum?... hey what's the next processor upgrade for a MBP? how does the HD differ from a MB?

Although you do have a right to be upset with people stealing content from your site, a few months back I noticed my #1 referral site was myspace simply because jackasses were linking directly to my images. But I did some tweaking to my .htaccess file and replaced all images being linked to myspace with a fun little NSFW image :D

I like that :D.

Actually I not that pissed, just a bit surprised to see my portfolio reposted that way. If they enjoy the images, that's fine. Nothing I can do about it really. After all, I put it into the public eye, it's not like they accessed the stuff off my harddrive.
